Xavier Continues BIG EAST Play with Two Home Matches

The Musketeers have swept their last two home games.
CINCINNATI - The Xavier volleyball team wraps up a three-game homestand with St. John's and Villanova visiting Cintas Center this weekend.
ÂThe Musketeers opened BIG EAST play last Wednesday with a 3-1 loss at DePaul but bounced back with a sweep of Butler at home on Saturday.
ÂXavier is 2-1 at home, winning the last two in sweep fashion over Kent State and Butler.
The Musketeers currently sit at sixth in the BIG EAST standings after the first week of play, the only team with a .500 record. The Red Storm and Wildcats are both in a three-way tie for second with 2-0 records.

- Logan Flaugh ranks second in the BIG EAST and 30th in the nation with 10.24 assists per set. Her 49 assists in the sweep of Kent State is the most by any league player in a three-set match this year.
- Margo Kemp's team-leading .372 hitting percentage is the fourth-best in the conference. She hit a career-high 13 kills against Kent State with only one error for a .667 clip, the highest single-game hitting percentage by a BIG EAST player this season.Â
- Kemp earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors after helping the Musketeers to a 1-1 start in conference play on 3.0 kills per set, 3.71 points per set and 0.86 blocks per set. She recorded 10 kills and six blocks against DePaul and followed up with 11 kills, four digs and two aces on a .500 clip in the sweep of Butler.
- Anna Taylor hit .545 against Kent State with 20 kills to set a new career-high for the second-straight weekend after tallying 18 against Army. Her 20 kills are the second-most in a three-set match by any league player this season.
- Sarah Stevens has hit above .500 for three-straight matches and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after notching eight kills and four blocks in consecutive matches, hitting .538 at DePaul and .700 in the sweep of Butler. The redshirt senior leads BIG EAST players in conference matches with a .609 hitting percentage.
- St. John's was picked to finish third in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll after a second-place finish in last year's conference tournament.
- The Red Storm enter the weekend 13-3 with a 2-0 conference record, picking up wins over Seton Hall and Georgetown last week to push their win streak to six.
- The Musketeers are 11-9 all time against St. John's with SJU winning both matchups last season.
- Erin Jones and Lucrezia Lodi were named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team after leading the Johnnies to the BIG EAST title match a season ago.Â
- Jones currently ranks fourth in the league with 3.81 kills per set and fifth in service aces per set with 0.40.
- The Red Storm rank second in the league with a .163 opponent hitting percentage.
- Setter Wiktoria Kowalczyk holds the record for most single-game assists (58) by a BIG EAST player this season.Â
- Villanova was picked to finish eighth in the league ahead of the 2024 season after a sixth-place finish a season ago and their first conference tournament appearance since 2019.
- The Wildcats are 9-4 and 2-0 in conference play, entering the weekend on a six-game win streak with league wins over Georgetown and Seton Hall.
- Xavier is 12-8 all time against Villanova, winning three of the last four and splitting last year's two matchups.
- Sophomore Abby Harrell was named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team after earning 2023 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors.
- Harrell ranks eighth in the conference with 3.26 kills per set.
- Freshman middle blocker Campbell McKinnon ranks second in the league with a .413 hitting percentage.
- The Wildcats recorded the most kills in a match (72) by any BIG EAST team this season.
