Swimming Heads to Akron to Take Part in Akron Zips Classic

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming head to Akron, Ohio, this weekend to take part in the Akron Zips Classic, running from Friday, Oct. 11 to Saturday, Oct. 12 at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.

MEET NOTES
- The swimming portion of the multi-team meet is set to start on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m.
- The event continues on Saturday morning at 10 a.m., and the teams return to the pool for an afternoon session on Saturday, set for a 5:00 p.m. start.
- The Musketeers will compete against Denison and Youngstown State on the men's side, as well as Akron on the women's side.
- Fans can follow the action live on Zips Digital Network or live results with the Meet Mobile App.
- Xavier men's swimming took first place, and the women finished third at last year's meet.
- Jordyn Libler set a then-school record time in the 100 breast at 1:02.65.

LAST TIME OUT - WOMEN
- At Louisville, Reese Turner, Jordyn Libler, Erin Ritz and Olivia Oyster led off the meet by pacing Xavier in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.10.
- Teegan Madara placed third in the 1000 free with a time of 10:27.99 Madara also led Xavier in the 200 breast, posting a time of 2:27.57
- Alexis Worrall posted a time of 1:53.90 in the 200 free.
- Reese Turner led Xavier in the 100 back, with a time of 58.03.
- Jordyn Libler posted a third-place finish in the 100 breast, finishing in 1:03.38. She also led Xavier in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.39.
- Norah Simich placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.53. Simich also led Xavier in the 100 fly with a time of 56.19.
- Olivia Oyster collected a pair of second-place finishes in the freestyle sprints, with a time of 23.17 in the 50 free and 50.85 in the 100 free.
- Charlie Ramey led Xavier in the 200 back, posting a time of 2:08.64.
- Abby Bocian's time of 5:19.23 in the 500 free led the Musketeers.
- Alexis Worrall, Molly Dynda, Reese Turner and Olivia Oyster posted a time of 3:33.80 in the 400 free relay to close out the meet.
- The Musketeer women fell by a score of 168-85.
LAST TIME OUT - MEN
- At Louisville, Gage Hannewyk, Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer and Kyle Hudson posted a 1:33.76 time in the 200 medley relay to lead off the meet.
- Ethan Leamer placed second in the 1000 free, posting a time of 9:48.72.
- Caz Mikula's time of 1:45.54 led the Musketeers in the 200 free. Mikula also led Xavier in the 500 free with a time of 4:45.98.
- Matt Fralic led Xavier in the 100 back with a time of 51.88.
- Brandon Malicki's time of 58.56 led the Musketeers in the 100 breast.
- Aiden Leamer placed second in the 200 fly, posting a time of 1:48.49. Leamer also led Xavier in the 100 fly, finishing in 49.47.
- Kyle Hudson led Xavier in the 50 free, finishing in 21.75.
- Gage Hannewyk posted a time of 48.05 to lead the Musketeers in the 100 free.
- Nate Finnegan finished the 200 back in 1:53.42 to lead Xavier. He also led the Musketeers in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.33.
- Nathan Wall set a time of 2:10.55 to lead the Musketeers in the 200 breast.
- Aiden Leamer, Ethan Saunders, Gage Hannewyk and Kyle Hudson closed out the meet with a time of 3:07.85 in the 400 free relay.
- The Musketeer men fell by a score of 167-86.
XAVIER MEN
- Eight of the 10 Musketeers who earned All-BIG EAST last season return for Xavier.Â
- Ethan Saunders earned the honor in six events to lead the Musketeers.
- Returner Aiden Leamer also earned all-conference in multiple events and set an NCAA B-Cut time in the 200 fly.
- All-BIG EAST honorees Matthew Adanin, Gage Hannewyk, Kyle Hudson, Ryan Knipp, Luke Peterson and Nathan Wall also return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier collected 10 gold medals at last season's BIG EAST Championships including going 5-for-5 on first place finishes in relays, finishing runners-up in the team standings.
XAVIER WOMEN
- Xavier returns six of the nine Musketeers that earned All-BIG EAST last season.Â
- Olivia Oyster led the Musketeers with all-conference performances in five events in 2023-24, including posting an NCAA B-Cut time in the 50 free.
- Jordyn Libler and Erin Ritz each earned All-BIG EAST and each set a pair of NCAA B-Cut times at the event as well.
- All-BIG EAST honorees Norah Simich, Reese Turner, Alexis Worrall also return this season.
- At last year's BIG EAST Championships, the Musketeer women collected a program-best five gold medals and set new program records nine events on the way to a fourth-place finish.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
- The Musketeers will host a meet for the current squad to compete against program alumni at the Heidt Family Champions Center on Xavier's campus.
- Following the Alumni Meet, Xavier travels to Granville, Ohio, to face Denison on Oct. 26 at 1:00 PM.
- Denison's women placed second at the NCAC Championships before finishing runners-up at the D-III National Championships.
- Denison's men finished second at last season's NCAC Championships, then earned a sixth-place finish at the D-III Nationals.
- The Musketeers combined to win 16 events at last season's dual meet. Xavier's men took the 142-120 win over the Big Red, winning nine events. Xavier's women collected seven event wins, but fell 140-122 to the Big Red.
WEEKLY AWARDS
- Xavier swept the first BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards of the season, with Olivia Oyster picking up the honor on the women's side, and Aiden Leamer earning the honor on the men's side.
- Oyster, a junior from Delaware, Ohio, won a pair of individual events and helped Xavier to a pair of relay wins at the Butler Quad as the Musketeers went 4-0 in the team standings at the double dual. She took the top spot in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.59, then followed that win a win in the 100 free with a time of 50.94. She also swam the freestyle leg of the 400 medley relay and the anchor leg in the 400 free relay as the Musketeers won both.
- Against Louisville, she collected a pair of second-place finishes in the freestyle sprints, with a time of 23.17 in the 50 free and 50.85 in the 100 free. She also swam the freestyle leg of the 200 medley relay and the anchor leg of the 400 free relay for Xavier's "A" squad
- Leamer, a junior from Mason, Ohio, took first in the only individual event he competed in at the Butler Double Dual, winning the 200 fly with a time of 1:50.68. He also helped Xavier take first in the 400 medley relay, swimming the fly leg to help Xavier win in a time of 3:26.07, as the Musketeer men went 2-1 in the team standings.
- Against Louisville, Leamer placed second in the 200 fly, posting a time of 1:48.49. Leamer also led Xavier in the 100 fly, finishing in 49.47. He swam the fly leg for the Xavier "A" squad in the 200 medley relay and first leg of the 400 free relay for Xavier's "A" squad.
BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS SCHEDULE UPDATE
- The 2025 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships have been moved up to start on Monday, February 24, 2025Â and run through Thursday, February 27.
- The championship meet will be held at the SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, just outside of Cleveland, for the first time since 2021.
