Musketeers face Huskies at 10 AM on Saturday, Penguins at 11 AM Sunday in Youngstown

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis heads to Youngstown, Ohio, this weekend for a pair of matches, facing Northern Illinois on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., then facing Youngstown State on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Both matches will be played at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.

OPPONENT INFO - NIU

Northern Illinois is 7-2 on the season and enters the match with Xavier on a five-match win streak.
NIU went 13-10 overall and 4-6 in MAC play last season.
Xavier is 1-0 all-time against the Huskies, taking a 6-1 win in 2018.

OPPONENT INFO - YSU

YSU is 3-5 on the season with wins over Binghamton, Butler and Georgetown.
Youngstown State finished at 13-11 overall and 6-2 in Horizon League play last season. The Penguins picked up a 4-1 win over Tennessee State in the Horizon League Quarterfinals before falling to Belmont in the Semis.
Xavier took the 5-2 win over YSU in the last match-up during the 2021-22 season.

LAST TIME OUT

Xavier men's tennis fell 5-2 at Furman on Sunday afternoon.
In doubles play, Furman took court No. 3, 6-4, against Alex Adamec and Pascal Mosberger, and clinch the point with a 6-4 win against Jorge Santamaria and Kyle Totorica on the No. 2 court. Cristian Gonzalez and Charlie Temming led 5-4 on No. 1 when the point was decided.
The Paladins took a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 1 court against Pascal Mosberger and made it a 3-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win on the No. 2 court against Charlie Temming. Furman clinched the match with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win against Kyle Totorica on the No. 4 court.
After the match was decided, Marco Pennelli picked up a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win on the No. 3 court, Cristian Gonzalez fell 6-3, 2-6, 10-7, and Alex Adamec picked up a 3-6, 7-6 (2), 10-6 win on the No. 6 court to set the final score at 5-2 in favor of the Paladins.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Next week, Xavier travels to Louisville to face Bellarmine on Thursday, Feb. 22, set for a 3:00 p.m. start.

THE MUSKETEERS

Xavier returns six letterwinners from last year's squad that finished the season at 12-9 overall.
The 2022-23 season marked a second-straight season with 12 wins, the first time the program had back-to-back 10-plus win season since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
The Musketeer returners include Ryan Cahill, Pascal Mosberger, Marco Pennelli, Jorge Santamaria, Charlie Temming and Kyle Totorica.
Xavier also added a pair of freshmen, Alex Adamec and Cristian Gonzalez.
