NASHVILLE - Xavier baseball dropped game two of the three-game series at Lipscomb, falling 17-8 at Ken Dugan Field on Saturday to move to 1-1 on the weekend. The Musketeers moved to 2-4 on the season.

Lipscomb took the first lead, scoring five in the bottom of the first. The Musketeers got a run back, with Tyler Demartino taking a lead-off walk and coming round to score on a sacrifice fly from Luke Hammond, but the Bisons added runs in the next two innings to take a 11-1 lead.

The Musketeers put up a five-run fourth inning, with Jared Cushing getting aboard to lead off the inning after being hit by a pitch, then scoring on a double from Hayden Christiansen. Luke Hammond and Grant Stephenson each got on with a walk to load the bases for Carter Hendrickson, who doubled down the left field line to drive in two runs. Garrett Schultz added two more runs with a single to right field, bringing in Stephenson and Hendrickson to cut the Lipscomb lead back to 11-6.

The Bisons scored three in the next half innings to extend the lead back to 14-6.

Xavier scored runs in the fifth, with Schultz taking a bases-loaded walk to bring in Luke Hammond who reached on an error, and in the sixth, when another lead-off walk for Tyler DeMartino turned into a run on a sac fly from Hammond to cut the Lipscomb advantage to 14-8.

The six-run advantage for the Bisons held into the seventh, when Lipscomb scored three, setting the final score at 17-8.

The series finale with the Bisons is set for Sunday, Feb. 25, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.

AT THE PLATE

Garrett Schultz went 2-5 with a walk, driving in three RBI.
Tyler DeMartino finished with a hit (1-2) with three walks, scoring three runs.
Carter Hendrickson had a hit (1-4) and a walk, driving in two RBI and scoring a run.
Luke Hammond finished with two RBI after a pair of sac flys. He also had a walk, and scored a pair of runs.
Hayden Christiansen had a hit (1-4) and two walks, driving in an RBI, and scoring a run.
Grant Stephenson and Jared Cushing each also had a pair of walks and scored a run.
Matt McCormick went 2-5 at the plate.

ON THE MOUND

Nolan Hughes made the start, and went 0.1 inning allowing five runs on a hit and four walks, striking out one.
Connor Bailey entered in the first with one out, going 1.0 inning, allowing three runs, one earned. Bailey didn't allow a hit, walked four and had one strikeout.
Eli Bridenthal entered with the bases loaded and one out in the second, going 1.0 inning, not allowing a hit or a walk and striking out two.
Ashton Chronister pitched 2.0 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits. He finished with one strikeout and no walks.
Tyler Sausville went 2.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits, finishing with three strikeouts and three walks.
Terry Murray pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
