
Baseball Wins Series at Lipscomb with 8-1 Victory in Series Finale

Musketeer pitchers match season high with 10 strikeouts
NASHVILLE -Â Xavier baseball won the rubber match of the three-game series at Lipscomb, 8-1, to take the 2-1 win in the series. The Musketeers moved to 3-4 on the season.
After four scoreless innings, the Musketeers took a 1-0 lead in the fifth after Carter Hendrickson reached on a bunt single, then advanced to third on a throwing error. Jared Cushing drove Hendrickson in with single to put the first run on the board.
Xavier added a pair of runs in the sixth after Tyler DeMartino hit a one out single, stole second and moved to third on an error. Luke Hammond took a walk to put two runners on for Carter Hendrickson, who singled up the middle to bring in DeMartino and move Hammond to third. Hammond came home on a balk to make it 3-0 Xavier.
Isaac Wachsmann made it a 4-0 Xavier lead with a seventh inning home run, a solo shot to left field.
The Bisons got a run across in the bottom of the eighth, but Xavier responded with a four-run ninth, with Cushing hitting a lead off single then scoring on a single from Matthew DePrey. Matt McCormick followed DePrey with a single to right to put runners on the corners for Aedan Anderson, who doubled down the left field line to drive in DePrey.
Hayden Christiansen hit a single to the left side to score McCormick and Anderson, setting the final score at 8-1
Xavier opens the home schedule at Cincinnati on Tuesday, Feb. 27, moved up from Wednesday due to weather. First pitch with the Bearcats is set for 2:00 p.m. at Hayden Field

- Jake Hooker pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing one hit but striking out a pair.
