Baseball Falls in Midweek Game at Wright State

Wright State took a 5-0 lead in the second inning, holding Xavier off the board until the fifth inning when the Musketeers posted three runs to cut the lead back to two. Jake Lambdin led off the inning with a single, then Connor Misch hit a double down the left field line to put two runners in scoring position. A ground out from Matt McCormick drove in a Lambdin from third, and a single from Isaac Wachsmann scored Misch. Carter Hendrickson hit a double to right field to add the final run of the inning.
Connor Bailey, who entered in the third, used a career-best seven strikeouts to keep the Raiders within striking distance. Xavier's pitching staff combined for 10 Ks on the day.
Wright State added two more runs to its lead in the sixth, but the Musketeers posted another three-run inning in the eighth to cut the Raider lead to one. Jared Cushing hit a one-out double, then scored on a single from Luke Hammond. Lambdin reached on a error and Misch hit a single to load the bases for McCormick, who singled to drive in a run. Hayden Christiansen took a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-6.
In the top of the ninth, Matthew DePrey hit a lead-off double and moved to third on a ground ball, but the Musketeers were unable to bring in the tying run, setting the final score at 7-6.
Xavier returns to Hayden Field to host Indiana State for a three-game series, starting on Friday, March 15 and running through Sunday, March 17.

- Connor Bailey entered in the third, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out a career-high seven, breaking his previous career high of six set on 4/5/2022 at Miami.
- Jonathan Kelly entered with two outs in the sixth, going 1.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits with one walk.
- Jake Hooker pitched the final 1.0 inning, not allowing a run, giving up just one hit and striking out one.
