03.15.24 | Baseball
Musketeers and Sycamores return to Hayden Field at 1:00 PM on Saturday
ISU took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run homer, adding another run to the advantage in the fourth with a solo homer to lead 3-0 in to the bottom of the fourth.
In that frame, Jared Cushing took a one-out walk, moved to third on a single from Luke Hammond and scored on a ground ball from Jake Lambdin to cut the lead back to 3-1. The Sycamores added a run in the fifth, but solo home runs from Matt McCormick in the fifth and Hammond in the sixth pulled the Musketeers within one, 4-3, going into the seventh.
In the top of the seventh, the Sycamores plated seven runs to move in front 11-3. Back-to-back solo home runs for Hayden Christiansen and Isaac Wachsmann put two more Xavier runs on the board to make it a 11-5 deficit. A five-run eighth for ISU gave the Sycamores a 16-5 advantage, ending the game with the 10-run rule after the Musketeers did not score in the bottom of the inning.
