Men's Tennis Hosts a Pair of BIG EAST Opponents, Then Travels to Notre Dame this Weekend

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis will host a pair of home matches this weekend, facing Villanova on Friday, March 22 and Creighton on Saturday, March 23, before traveling to South Bend, Ind. to face Notre Dame on Sunday, March 23.

Friday's match against Villanova is set for a 2:00 p.m. start, either outdoors at the Jim and Mary Brockhoff Family Tennis Facility, or, if moved indoors due to weather, at Eastern Hills Indoor. Saturday is also set for a 2:00 p.m. start, while Sunday is set for a 5:00 p.m. start

VILLANOVA INFO

The Wildcats are 4-8 on the season with wins over Colgate, Rider, Wagner and Franklin and Marshall.
Villanova went 8-15 overall and 0-6 against BIG EAST teams last season. The Wildcats fell to Creighton in the BIG EAST Tournament first round.
The Musketeers enter the season on a two-match win streak over the Wildcats, topping VU 4-0 last season.

CREIGHTON INFO

Creighton is 9-6 on the season with a 1-2 record against BIG EAST teams, entering this weekend on a two-match win streak. The Bluejays will face Butler on Friday.
The Bluejays went 13-7 overall and 4-0 against BIG EAST teams last season. CU advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals with a win over Villanova in the Quarterfinals, falling to Butler in the Semis.
Creighton won 4-3 in Cincinnati in last season's match-up.

NOTRE DAme INFO

Notre Dame is 9-8 on the season, with a 1-3 record in ACC play.
The Fighting Irish went 13-14 overall and 3-9 in ACC matches. Notre Dame fell to Louisville in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
This is the first match-up between the two programs.

LAST TIME OUT

Cristian Gonzalez picked up a singles win as Xavier men's tennis fell, 6-1, to Dayton on Sunday afternoon at the South Regency Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Flyers picked up wins on all three courts, taking the No. 1 court, 6-2, against Ryan Cahill and Charlie Temming, the No. 2 court, 6-2, against Pascal Mosberger and Cristian Gonzalez and the No. 3 court, 6-2, against Alex Adamec and Marco Pennelli, to take the point.
The Musketeers picked up a point on the No. 5 singles court, with Cristian Gonzalez taking a 6-4, 6-4 decision for the Musketeers.
The Flyers took the No. 1 court, 6-4, 6-1 against Ryan Cahill and the No. 2 court, 6-0, 6-1, against Pascal Mosberger.
UD also took the No. 3 court, 7-5, 6-0, against Marco Pennelli, and the No. 4 court, 7-6 (7), 6-2, against Charlie Temming. Dayton also took court No. 6, 6-3, 6-2, against Jorge Santamaria.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Xavier will head out on the road next weekend, traveling to Georgetown on Saturday, March 30, and then facing Navy on Sunday, March 31.

THE MUSKETEERS

Xavier returns six letterwinners from last year's squad that finished the season at 12-9 overall.
The 2022-23 season marked a second-straight season with 12 wins, the first time the program had back-to-back 10-plus win season since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
The Musketeer returners include Ryan Cahill, Pascal Mosberger, Marco Pennelli, Jorge Santamaria, Charlie Temming and Kyle Totorica.
Xavier also added a pair of freshmen, Alex Adamec and Cristian Gonzalez.
