Women's Lacrosse Drops BIG EAST Opener to Butler

Xavier fell to Butler on Saturday afternoon, 16-10
CINCINNATI - Women's lacrosse fell to Butler, 10-16, on Saturday afternoon, in the BIG EAST conference opener.Â
The Musketeers fall to 3-6 (0-1 BIG EAST) and the Bulldogs advance to 2-7 (1-0 BIG EAST).

• Sophomore attacker Lola Mancuso was the leading scorer for the Musketeers against the Butler defense. Mancuso notched five goals, reaching her 12th career hat trick and sixth of the season, and went 3-3 on free position shots, breaking the program's single-game record for free position goals.
• Additional scorer's for Xavier, recording one goal apiece, were freshmen midfielders Elle Busby and Lydia Laney with their first career goals, junior midfielder Julie Cassidy, and freshmen midfielders Kirra Crowley and Machaela Henry.
• Dylan Halloran, the redshirt junior attacker, and Laney each tacked on an assist for the Musketeers, Laney's being the first in her career.
• Catherine Gurd, the redshirt sophomore defender, boasted the team-, game- and career-high of three caused turnovers against the Bulldogs. Following her efforts was freshman defender Kimaura Schindler with two and seven other Musketeers with one apiece.
• Henry led Xavier with four ground balls and four draw controls, team- and career-highs in each category. Â
• Behind Henry with three ground balls apiece were Laney, Mancuso, and Gurd - a career-high for both Laney and Gurd.
• Following Henry's efforts on the draw was redshirt freshman midfielder Samantha Balara with a career-high three and redshirt sophomore midfielder Sawyer Walker with two.
• Marina Piszczor, the sophomore goalkeeper, collected eight saves in goal during 45 minutes of action and a season-high three ground balls.

• The Musketeers totaled 12 points, 26 ground balls, 12 draw controls, 12 caused turnovers, and nine saves.
