Men's Tennis Set to Play Georgetown in BIG EAST Quarterfinals

Musketeers and Hoyas set to face off at 9 AM on Friday
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis travels to Cayce, S.C., to take part in the 2024 BIG EAST Championships, Presented by JEEP. The Musketeers earned the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seeded Georgetown on Friday, April 19, at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Quarterfinal match between the Musketeers and the Hoyas is scheduled for a 9:00 a.m. start and the winner will advance to play the winner of DePaul/Villanova in the Semifinals on Saturday.
Xavier enters the postseason at 4-17 overall and 2-4 against BIG EAST teams.

TOURNAMENT INFO
- The 2024 BIG EAST Tennis Championships Presented by JEEP returns to the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C., from April 18-21.
- The Men's and Women's Championship rounds will be streamed live on FloSports.
- Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center will host the championship for the eighth consecutive year. The facility offers 30 lighted world-class courts with a championship-sized stadium court that has a viewing capacity of approximately 500 spectators. There are seven dedicated 38' courts for 8 & Under Tennis. Courts are complete with a small central gazebo, iced water coolers and electrical outlets on every court for ball-machine use.
- Seeds for the championships were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
- There is no charge for admission. Merchandise will be available for purchase through Shop.BIGEAST.com.

- The Hoyas are 14-7 overall and 4-3 in BIG EAST play, with wins over Creighton, Marquette, Xavier and Villanova, and losses to Butler, DePaul and St. John's
- The two teams faced each other on March 30 in College falling 4-3 in a match that came down to a three-set decision on the No. 1 singles court.
- The Hoyas took the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Ryan Cahill and Charlie Temming on the No. 1 court and a 6-3 win over Pascal Mosberger and Cristian Gonzalez on the No. 2 court.
- Xavier picked up a two-set win on the No. 5 court for Cristian Gonzalez, 6-3, 6-2, while Georgetown picked up two singles courts in two sets, taking the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-4, against Marco Pennelli, and the No. 4 court 6-1, 7-5, against Charlie Temming.
- Pascal Mosberger battled back after falling in the first set on the No. 2 court to take the 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win, and Jorge Santamaria picked up a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win on the No. 6 court to give Xavier three points.
- Georgetown took a three-set win on the No. 1 court, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, against Ryan Cahill to pick up a fourth point.
- The Hoyas went 12-9 overall last season with a 4-2 record against BIG EAST teams during the regular season. The Hoyas advanced with a win over Xavier before falling to St. John's in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals. Georgetown took a 4-1 win over the Musketeers in the BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals last season.
LAST TIME OUT
- Two Musketeers picked up singles wins but Xavier men's tennis fell, 5-2, to DePaul on Saturday evening.
- In doubles play, DePaul picked up 6-2 wins over Ryan Cahill and Pascal Mosberger on court No. 1 and over Jorge Santamaria and Charlie Temming on court No. 2 to clinch the point.
- DePaul took a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win on No. 2 over Pascal Mosberger and made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Ryan Cahill on No. 1 singles.
- Charlie Temming took a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win on the No. 4 court to get the Musketeers on the board at 3-1.
- DePaul clinched the win with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win against Cristian Gonzalez on the No. 5 court, leading 4-1.
- A 3-6, 6-4,6-4 on the No. 3 court against Charlie Temming made it a 5-1 DePaul lead.
- Jorge Santamaria won on No. 6 singles, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-4, to set the final score at 5-2.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns six letterwinners from last year's squad that finished the season at 12-9 overall.
- The 2022-23 season marked a second-straight season with 12 wins, the first time the program had back-to-back 10-plus win season since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
- The Musketeer returners include Ryan Cahill, Pascal Mosberger, Marco Pennelli, Jorge Santamaria, Charlie Temming and Kyle Totorica.
- Xavier also added a pair of freshmen, Alex Adamec and Cristian Gonzalez.
