Xavier Takes Series Opener at Butler, 13-6, on Friday Night

The Musketeers have now won nine straight games vs the Bulldogs
Xavier scored five runs in the first three innings of the game. Butler added four runs through four innings.
The Musketeers took a 6-4 advantage in the top of the fifth inning on a two-out, RBI single by Connor Misch. The Musketeers added six runs on five hits and one error in the sixth inning, taking an eight-run lead (12-4). Xavier scored all six runs in the sixth inning with two outs in the frame.
Jake Lambdin hit an RBI double in the top ninth inning to extend Xavier's lead to nine runs (13-4). The Bulldogs added two runs on one hit in the bottom of the frame to make the final score, 13-6.
Game two of the weekend series at Butler is set for Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m.

- Connor Misch led nine Musketeers with a hit, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. He now has three multi-RBI games this season and 10 multi-hit games.
- Jared Cushing went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. He extended his hitting streak to 12 games. The infielder now has 14 multi-hit games this season.
- Luke Hammond went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. The infielder now has a team-leading 15 multi-hit games.
- Matt McCormick went 2-for-5 with three runs and a RBI. He now has 14 multi-hit games and ranks second on the team in runs scored (32).
- Carter Hendrickson went 1-for-3 with three runs. Aedan Anderson and Matthew DePrey both went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
- Xavier's 13 runs are the second most in a game this season (scored 15 runs vs Creighton on April 13). The Musketeers have now scored 10 or more runs in a game seven times this season.
- The Musketeers also had 14 hits in the game, tied for the second most hits in a game this season (had 15 hits at Louisville on Feb. 21). Xavier has now recorded 10 or more hits in a game 20 times this season.
- Jonathan Kelly made his fourth start of the season, throwing three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work. The RHP allowed seven hits and four runs, while surrendering one walk.
- Alex Vera (3-1)Â threw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief without allowing a hit. The LHP recorded three strikeouts and three walks.
- Ashton Chronister, Aiden Cook, Jimmy Starnes and Terry Murray combined to pitch the final three innings - allowing two runs and three hits.
