Two Ninth-Inning Home Runs Power Xavier to Walk-Off Win Over Miami (Ohio)

Isaac Wachsmann hits a two-run shot to tie the game; Jared Cushing seals the win with second home run of the day
The RedHawks took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run in the top of the first, but a two-run shot from Jared Cushing, driving in Luke Hammond, who got aboard with a double, gave Xavier the 2-1 lead headed into the second. A pair of home runs in the second inning gave MU a 5-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Xavier scored three runs on three hits, with Matthew DePrey, Hammond and Aedan Anderson scoring, and Cushing picking up a pair of RBI, to tie the game at 5-5.
The Musketeers moved back on front in the bottom of the third after Connor Misch took a lead-off walk, Carter Hendrickson doubled and DePrey singled to make it 6-5. Isaac Wachsmann was hit by a pitch to load the bases and a sac fly from Anderson brought in another run to make it 7-5 after three.
The RedHawks added a run in the fourth and the 7-6 score held into the bottom of the fifth, when Aedan Anderson hit a two-run homer, driving in Grant Stephenson who got on with a walk, to make it a 9-6 Xavier lead. Miami scored a run in the sixth, then posted a four-run ninth inning to retake the lead, 11-9.
In the bottom of the ninth, Isaac Wachsmann came to the plate with two outs and Grant Stephenson aboard, after the shortstop took a lead-off walk. Wachsmann sent the ball over the left field fence for his sixth home run of the season, tying the game at 11-11.
Jared Cushing made it back-to-back homers for Xavier, with the solo shot giving the Musketeers the 12-11 walk-off win, Cushing's second walk-off home run of the season. The second baseman also hit the walk-off dinger in Xavier's 11-10 win over Bowling Green on March 28.
Xavier heads out for the final BIG EAST road series of the regular season this weekend, traveling to College Park, Md., to play a three games against Georgetown at the University of Maryland, running from Friday, May 10, through Sunday, May 12. The Musketeers enter the weekend at 9-6 in BIG EAST play, currently sitting in fourth place in the league standings.
- Jared Cushing finished 3-of-5 at the plate with a career-high matching five RBI. He came around to score a pair of runs on his two homers, marking his second two-home run game of the season (Creighton 4/13). Cushing now has seven home runs for the season.
- Aedan Anderson (1-5) finished with three RBI, including driving in two runs with his BIG EAST-leading 15th home run of the season. He also came around to score a pair of runs.
- Isaac Wachsmann (1-3, 2 BB) finished with a pair of RBI on his ninth-inning home run to tie the game, his sixth of the season and first since returning from injury.
- Carter Hendrickson went 4-of-5 at the plate, scoring a run.
- Luke Hammond went 3-of-5 at the plate, with a pair of doubles, scoring two runs.
- Matthew DePrey (1-5) finished with an RBI and a run scored
- Grant Stephenson finished 1-of-2 with two walks, scoring a pair of runs.
- Connor Misch got aboard with a pair of walks, scoring a run. Matt McCormick also got on with a walk.
- Connor Bailey went 2.0 innings in the start, allowing five runs on five hits and a walk.
- Nick Boyle came in from the bullpen for the third, going 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks. Boyle finished with four strikeouts.
- Alex Vera entered with one on and two outs in the sixth, going 1.2 innings without allowing a run, giving up two hits and striking out a pair.
- Nolan Hughes entered with on and and one out in the eighth inning, getting a pair of strikeouts to get out of the inning. He allowed one run on a pair of walks in the ninth.
- Jake Lambdin entered with two on and no outs in the ninth, going to final 1.0 inning. He allowed three runs on three hits, striking out one.
