Musketeers collect 20 wins over three-day event

OXFORD, Ohio - Xavier women's tennis opened Fall tournament play over the weekend at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational, facing the RedHawks, Louisville and Middle Tennessee State in a hidden dual format that ran from Friday through Sunday. The Musketeers collected 20 wins overall, with 14 singles wins and six doubles wins through the weekend.

Xavier opened action on Friday morning with singles against Louisville, taking three wins over the Cardinals. Abigail Siminski took a 6-3, 6-3 win over UofL's Berta Miret, Madeleine Rexroat picked up a 7-6, 6-2 win over Germany Davis and Emily Flowers won in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3, against Elizabeth Iila.

The Musketeers wrapped up day one with doubles against Miami, with Clara Owen and Emily Flowers combining for an 8-5 win over the RedHawks.

Day two featured singles against MTSU, with the Musketeers taking five of six matches against the Blue Raiders. Abby Nugent took a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Ilaria Sposetti. Abigail Siminski picked up her second singles win of the weekend, topping Lena Peyer, 6-3, 6-1. Sofia Mazzucato picked up a win over Eloise Swarbrick, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2, Natalie Smitek defeated Rutuja Chaphalkar, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Clara Owen took a 6-0, 6-1 win over Karen Yibirin.

Xavier also faced Louisville in doubles on day two, with Clara Owen picking up her second doubles win of the weekend, partnered with Madeleine Rexroat, to defeat the Cardinals' Germany Davis and Elena Noguero, 8-5.

The Musketeers wrapped up the Invite by taking six of seven singles matches against Miami, and winning four doubles matches, including three against MTSU and another doubles win over the RedHawks on day three.

Abigail Siminski went 3-for-3 in singles for the weekend, taking a 6-4, 6-4 win over Miami's Catherine Denysiewicz Slowek. Madeleine Rexroat picked up her second singles win, going 2-of-2 for the Invite, with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nishitha Saravanan. Emily Flowers also went 2-for-2 in singles, defeating Lauren Joyce, 6-3, 6-1. Clara Owen picked up her second win in a pair of matches, taking the 6-4, 7-6 win over Sara Zalukar. Natalie Smitek earned her second win of the weekend with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Lovisa Valentinsson. Sofia Mazzucato's second singles win of the weekend was a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Avery Voss.

In doubles against MTSU, Clara Owen's third doubles win of the weekend came partnered with Abby Nugent, an 8-5 win over Alessia Truden and Ilaria Sposetti. Elizabeth Pendergast and Emily Flowers partnered for an 8-6 win over Rutuja Chaphalkar and Eloise Swarbrick. Madeleine Rexroat and Abigail Siminski defeated Lena Peyer and Karen Yibirin, 8-3. To wrap up the event, Sofia Mazzucato and Ellie Brotherton defeated Miami's Avery Voss and Lovisa Valentinsson, 8-7 (3).

Xavier remains in Southwest Ohio next weekend, traveling to the Dayton Invitational, running from Sept 27-28.
