Men's Basketball Suffers Setback Against St. John's at Cintas Center

Freemantle, Swain and McKnight hit double figures
CINCINNATI -Â Zach Freemantle finished with 22 points, leading three Musketeers in double figures, as Xavier fell 82-72 to St. John's at Cintas Center on Tuesday evening.
Xavier moved to 9-7 and 1-4 in BIG EAST action, while the Red Storm improved to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in BIG EAST play.
Xavier now heads to Chicago to face DePaul on Saturday, January 11, at Wintrust Arena. The Musketeers and the Blue Demons get underway at 4:00 p.m. ET on FS1.

NOTABLE
- St. John's led by as many as 14 in the first half, taking a 10-point lead in the the final five minutes of the half before the Musketeers outscored the Red Storm 12-4 over the final 2:48 to go into the break trailing by four, 41-37. Dayvion McKnight and Zach Freemantle each had 10 to lead Xavier in the first half.
- After the Red Storm opened the second half on a 4-0 run, Xavier would get as close as five before St. John's built the lead out to double digits, going ahead by as many 18 before SJU won by 10, 82-72.
- Zach Freemantle finished with a game-high 22 points after leading the Musketeers with 12 points in the second half.
- Dailyn Swain finished with 14 points after scoring 10 points in the second half, going 4-of-5 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Swain led the Musketeers with eight rebounds.
- Dayvion McKnight added 11 points for the Musketeers, and dished out a game-high eight assists while only committing one turnover in 37 minutes.
- Xavier finished shooing 36.7 percent overall to St. John's 42.0 percent, while the Musketeers connected on 22.2 percent from three, while limiting the Red Storm to 12.5 percent from outside.
- St. John's finished with a 50-30 advantage overall on the boards, including a 20-7 advantage on the offensive glass to outscore the Musketeers 22-2 on second-chance buckets.
