Xavier Wins Seventh Straight Home Match

XU defeated Providence in straight sets to improve to 16-2 and 7-0 at Cintas Center
CINCINNATI - The Xavier volleyball team swept Providence on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated at home and win their fourth straight match.
The Musketeers were dominant from the start as they led the whole way through the first set after a 2-2 start. XU took advantage of a 6-0 run to build up to a comfortable 19-7 lead. Providence clawed back to within seven, but Charlotte Moriarty put down five kills in the frame to lead Xavier to a 25-16 first set victory.
Moriarty continued her dominance into the second set as she racked up six more kills in the frame. XU ended the second on a 5-0 run behind three of Moriarty's kills for a 25-12 win. The Musketeers held Providence to a -.143 hitting percentage in the middle set.
The Friars fought back in the third set, going on an early 11-2 run of their own to make it an 14-7 game. The Musketeers bounced back and were able to tie it up at 17-17. XU went on a late run with three straight kills and took the match with a final set score of 25-22.
Xavier improves to 16-2 and 5-1 in the BIG EAST while Providence falls to 10-9 with a 1-5 league record.

Xavier travel to Marquette and DePaul next week as they look to extend their four-game win streak. First serve in Milwaukee is set for 8:00 p.m. EST against the Golden Eagles on Friday.

- Emma Grace also had 12 digs to go along with six kills, two aces and two blocks while hitting an error less .600.
