Xavier Defeats Marquette In Five Set Thriller

The Musketeers took down the Golden Eagles for the first time since 2016.
MILWAUKEE - The Xavier volleyball team won their fifth straight match to improve to 17-2 after defeating RV Marquette in five sets. The Musketeers snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Golden Eagles with the victory on Friday night.
XU moves into sole possession of second place in the league after the win. Xavier is the first BIG EAST team besides Creighton to defeat Marquette since St. John's in 2023.
The Musketeers came out swinging, recording 12 kills in the first set behind three each McKinley Boehm and Charlotte Moriarty.
The Golden Eagles responded with a dominant second set, hitting a combined .440 while holding XU to a -.088 clip.
Xavier bounced back in set three as Emma Grace and Anna Taylor each notched three kills while the defense held MU to a match-low .065 clip behind four solo stuffs.
Set four saw nine ties and six lead changes while XU hit a match-best .242, but Marquette went on a late 6-0 run to force a fifth set.
The Musketeer defense stepped up in the final set with 12 digs and two blocks to lead XU to the win.
Xavier improves to 17-2 on the season with a 6-1 league record while Marquette falls to 11-6 and 5-2 in the BIG EAST.
Xavier will travel to face DePaul on Saturday night in Chicago. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in McGrath-Phillips Arena.
