Women's Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season with Marquette on Friday

Musketeers host Golden Eagles for a 2 PM start at Eastern Hills
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis returns home this weekend to host Seton Hall on Friday, April 4, set for a 2:00 p.m. start at Eastern Hills. The Musketeers will celebrate Senior Day following the match.

MARQUETTE
- The Golden Eagles are 3-16 on the season, with a BIG EAST win over Providence and losses to Georgetown, DePaul, Villanova, UConn, St. John's and Creighton.Â
- Last season, Marquette went 8-17 overall and 2-4 in BIG EAST matches, topping Butler in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round before falling to Xavier, 4-1, in the Quarterfinals.
- Xavier also took a 4-0 win over Marquette in the regular season in 2024. The Musketeers enter the weekend with a five-match win streak.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
- Next week, the Musketeers will travel to Cayce, S.C. for the BIG EAST Championships, set to begin on Thursday, April 17. Xavier is looking to win its fifth-straight BIG EAST Championship, and sixth overall.
LAST TIME OUT
- Xavier won a fifth-straight match and picked up a fourth win in BIG EAST play with a 7-0 sweep of Butler on Sunday at the Indianapolis Racquet Club.
- In doubles, Abby Nugent and Clara Owen collected their fifth-straight win on the No. 1 doubles court, 6-3, and  Natalie Smitek and Emily Flowers combined for a 6-3 win on the No. 3 court to clinch the point.
- In singles, Elizabeth Pendergast picked up her fifth-straight win, taking the No. 1 court, 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
- Abby Nugent won her 11th singles match of the dual season, taking No. 2, 6-2, 6-1.
- Madeleine Rexroat took a 6-1, 6-4 win on the No. 3 court, her fifth-straight and 11th overall singles win.
- Emily Flowers made it nine singles wins in a row, and a team-best 14 for the dual season, with a 6-1, 6-3 win on the No. 4 court.
- Abigail Siminski won her 10th singles match of the spring, taking the No. 5 court, 6-2, 7-6 (3).
- Natalie Smitek competed on court No. 6, taking a 6-1, 6-0 win, her third of the season.
THE MUSKETEERS
- The Musketeers are looking for their fifth-straight, and sixth overall, BIG EAST Championship, and look to make a return trip to the NCAA Championship.
- Xavier returned six student-athletes from last year's BIG EAST Championship roster including juniors Emily Flowers, Abby Nugent and Abigail Siminski as well as sophomores Ellie Brotherton and Sofia Mazzucato and senior transfer Elizabeth Pendergast, who made her debut as a Musketeer this fall. Xavier also added a trio of freshmen to the roster, Clara Owen, Madeleine Rexroat and Natalie Smitek.
- Xavier wrapped up the fall schedule with Abby Nugent and Clara Owen becoming the first players in program history to compete in doubles at the NCAA Individual Championships. The pair earned the bid after advancing to the finals of the ITA Conference Masters Championships.
- Madeleine Rexroat also took part in the ITA Conference Masters Championships, representing the BIG EAST in singles. Elizabeth Pendergast and Emily Flowers competed at the ITA Sectional Championships as a doubles team, with Pendergast also playing in the singles draw.
