Aedan Anderson homers in the ninth to put Musketeers in front
The Musketeers took the early 2-0 lead with Jake Lambdin and Connor Misch getting on with singles in the first, and coming home on a Nolan Tucker triple. The lead held into the bottom of the third when UC scored a pair to tie it up, 2-2, and the Bearcats added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
In the sixth, Aedan Anderson led off the inning with walk, then came home on a double from Tucker. After moving to third on a ground ball from Clay Burdette, Tucker scored on a sac fly from Jason Jelic to cut the lead to 5-4.
Cincinnati held the one run lead into the ninth, where Misch led off the frame with a single and Anderson followed with a two-run homer to put the Musketeers in front 6-5. The Musketeers added another run after Tucker was hit by a pitch, Burdette reached on an error, and Isaac Wachsmann was intentionally walked to load the bases. Tucker came home on a sac fly from Joe Karpierz to give Xavier the 7-5 lead.
UC added a run in the bottom of the ninth on a solo home run, but Jake Hooker picked up three strikeouts in the inning to secure the 7-6 win.
Xavier travels to Villanova this weekend for a three-game series, set to get underway on Thursday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m. on FloCollge.
