Xavier Captures Series Finale at Creighton on Sunday

Ryan Piech matched his season high in strikeouts with seven
OMAHA, Neb. - Xavier baseball took the series finale at Creighton, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
The Musketeers improve to 30-23 (14-7 BIG EAST), while Creighton drops to 34-14 (14-4 BIG EAST).
Jake Lambdin gave the Musketeers an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on a RBI ground out by Carter Hendrickson. Creighton responded by scoring on a throwing error in the bottom of the frame, tying game at 1-1.
Xavier scored three runs on three hits in the top of the seventh inning, taking a 4-1 advantage. A two-out, RBI single by Carter Hendrickson scored the first run before Clay Burdette drove in the final two runs with a double to the outfield wall.
Creighton closed within two runs in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one run on three hits.
Both teams had six hits in the game. Creighton left one more runner on base (8-7) than Xavier. The Musketeers committed one more error (2-1) than the Bluejays.
Xavier closes regular-season action with a three-game non-conference series at Penn State on May 15-17.

- Clay Burdette went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He now has 14 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games.
- Carter Hendrickson went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run. He now has 11 multi-RBI games.
- Hayden Christiansen, Luke Hammond and Nolan Tucker all added a hit.
- Jake Lambdin added a run and a stolen base. He is now 13-for-14 in stolen bases.

- Ryan Piech (3-2) earned the win, striking out seven batters in six innings of action. The RHP only allowed three hits and one run. The seven strikeouts also matches his season high (now has three games with seven strikeouts).
- Jake Hooker earned his third save of the season, allowing only one run and three hits in three innings of work. He threw two strikeouts and walked one batter.
- The pitching staff limited Creighton to only two runs, the fewest runs scored in a game by the Bluejays since April 8 (L, 3-2 vs North Dakota State).
