Nolan Tucker finishes 4-5 at the plate with three RBI; Aedan Anderson hits seventh home run of the year

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Xavier baseball closed out the regular season with an 8-6 win in the series finale at Penn State at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Musketeers wrapped up the regular season at 31-25 overall.

PSU took a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Musketeers put up a pair in next frame, with walks for Luke Hammond and Jake Lambdin putting two on for Nolan Tucker, who drove in Hammond with a double to tie it. Lambdin came home on sac fly from Carter Hendrickson to give Xavier the 2-1 lead.

The Nittany Lions plated a run in the fourth to tie it, and moved back in front, 3-2, with a run in the sixth.

The Musketeers scored three runs on four hits in the seventh to retake the lead. Aedan Anderson led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a single from Jason Jelic. Hammond singled through the right side to bring in Anderson and tie the game. A double from Tucker brought in another run to put Xavier in front and a single from Connor Misch made it a 5-3 Xavier lead.

Walks from Anderson, Jelic and Lambdin loaded the bases for Tucker, who made it 6-3 led for the Musketeers with his fourth hit of the day.

Isaac Wachsmann singled with two outs in the ninth to put a runner on for Anderson, who homered to left to make it an 8-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth.

The Nittany Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth, bringing the winning run to the plate, but Jake Hooker picked up his fourth save of the day to secure the 8-6 win.

Xavier now moves on to the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament, held at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The Musketeers, who earned the No. 3 seed, will open up play against No. 2 seed UConn on Wednesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Nolan Tucker finished 4-5 at the plate with two doubles, driving in three RBI. Tucker's four hits and three RBI match his season highs.
Aedan Anderson went 1-2 with three walks, driving in two RBI with his seventh home run of the season and scoring three runs.
Connor Misch went 2-4 with a walk, driving in an RBI.
Luke Hammond got on with a hit (1-3) and two walks, driving in an RBI and scoring a run.
Carter Hendrickson also had an RBI on a sac fly.
Jason Jelic went 2-4 with a walk, scoring run.
Jake Lambdin reached on a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch, scoring two runs.
Isaac Wachsmann recorded a hit, one of 11 for Xavier.
Landon Mensik finished with a stolen base and run scored, pinch running for Wachsmann.
Clay Burdette got on with a walk, one of 10 for the Musketeers for the day.

Logan Schmidt went 3.0 innings in the start, allowing one run on three hits and walk, finishing with four strikeouts.
Jack Nobe entered for the fourth, going 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one without issuing a walk.
Trevor Geddes came in with one on and two outs in the sixth, going 0.2 innings without allowing a run, giving up just one hit. Geddes picked up the win to move to 3-0.
Jon Wylie entered with two on and one out in the seventh, going 1.2 inning, allowing a pair of hits and a walk, striking out one.
Jake Hooker entered with two on and no outs in the ninth, allowing two hits, but picking up the save, his fourth of the season.
