Baseball Falls to No. 1 seed Creighton in BIG EAST Tournament, Faces No. 2 UConn on Friday

Musketeers and Huskies play for spot in Championship at 5:00 p.m. at Prasco Park
Xavier took the lead in the first, with Carter Hendrickson reaching on an error, moving to third on a single from Connor Misch and scoring on a single from Clay Burdette to make it a 1-0 Musketeer lead. Creighton scored three in the bottom of the frame, and the Bluejays took the two-run lead into the third.
Jake Lambdin singled through the left side to lead off the third, and Hendrickson singled through the left side and advanced to second on an error to put two runners in scoring position for Misch. A single from the first baseman drove in two runs to tie it at 3-3. Clay Burdette followed with his team-high 13th home run of the season to put Xavier in front, 5-3.
Creighton picked up a run in the third to cut the Musketeers' lead to 5-4. Xavier held the one-run lead into the bottom of the fifth, when a two-run home run put the Bluejays back in front, 6-5. Creighton added a pair of runs in the sixth to stretch the lead back to three, 8-5.
The Musketeers pulled within one in the seventh, with a lead-off walk from Luke Hammond and a single from Lambdin putting two on for Carter Hendrickson, who brought in Hammond to cut the lead to two. Lambdin scored on a sac fly from Connor Misch to make it a one run game, 8-7.
The Bluejays scored a pair in the bottom of the seventh, but the Musketeers got a run back on a solo home run from Aedan Anderson in the eighth to make it a 10-8 Creighton lead. The Bluejays picked up a run in the eighth to set the final score at 11-8.
The Musketeers now face the No. 2 seed UConn in an elimination game on Friday, May 23, set for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch at Prasco Park. The winner will move on to face Creighton on Saturday in the Championship series.

- Jack Nobe entered with two outs in the fifth, going 2.0 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and two walks, striking out three.
- Trevor Geddes faced one batter in the seventh.
- Nick Boyle entered with two on and two outs in the seventh, allowing one run on one hit and three walks in 0.2 inning.
- Ashton Chronister entered with two on and one out in the eighth, going 0.2 inning, allowing one hit and striking out a pair.
