Musketeers claim fifth BIG EAST series win, clinch spot in BIG EAST Tournament
CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball swept a Sunday doubleheader against Seton Hall on Sunday, taking the 6-1 win in seven innings in game one, and then taking the 9-7 win in the finale, to take the series with the Pirates, 2-1, the Musketeers' fifth series win in conference action.
The Musketeers moved to 29-21 overall and 13-5 in BIG EAST play, clinching one of the four spots in the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament, held at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
Xavier took the early lead in game one, with a walk from Jake Lambdin and a single for Nolan Tucker putting two runners on for Connor Misch, who made it a 3-0 Xavier advantage with his fourth home run of the season. Clay Burdette made it back-to-back homers to give Xavier the 4-0 lead.
The Musketeers made it a 5-0 lead in the third with Tucker getting on with a single, moving to second on a single from Carter Hendrickson, stealing third and scoring on a ground ball from Misch. SHU picked up a run in the fourth, but the Musketeers got it back in the fifth when Lambdin got on with a single, moved to second with a Tucker walk, stole third and scored on a throwing error to make it 6-1.
Ben Weber went the full 7.0 innings in game one, limiting the Pirates to just one run on three hits on the way to the 6-1 win for the Musketeers.
In game two, Xavier took the lead in the first, with Lambdin leading off with a single, moving to second on an error and stealing third before coming home on a ground ball from Misch. Seton Hall picked up runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth.
The Musketeers moved back in front with six runs on six hits in the bottom of fifth, with a single from Tucker and a double from Hendrickson putting two runners in scoring position. Misch brought in Tucker with a single, Burdette drove in Hendrickson with a single and Isaac Wachsmann brought in Misch with a double. Burdette scored on a fielder's choice and Donavan Canterberry hit a double to bring in Wachsmann and Jason Jelic to make it a 7-3 Xavier lead.
Xavier added two more runs to the lead in the sixth after Tucker led off with a double and Hendrickson walked, and a double steal moved both to scoring position. Tucker came home on a ground ball from Misch and Hendrickson scored on an error to make it a 9-3 Xavier lead.
Seton Hall added a run in the eighth and three in the ninth to set the final score at 9-7 in favor of the Musketeers.
Xavier continues BIG EAST play next weekend, traveling to Omaha, Neb., to face Creighton for a three-game series, running May 9-11.

- Connor Misch (1-4) hit his fourth home run of the season, finishing the game with four RBI and a run scored in the first game. Misch added three more RBI to his total in game two, finishing 1-4 with a walk, scoring a run.
- Clay Burdette (1-3) finished game one with an RBI and a run scored after hitting his 11th home run of the season. In game two, Burdette went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
- Nolan Tucker went 2-3 with a walk, scoring a pair of runs in game one. In the finale, he finished 2-3 with two runs scored.
- Jake Lambdin went 1-2 with a pair of walks in game one, scoring two runs. In game two he added another run scored to his total.
- Donavan Canterberry (1-5) drove in two RBI with a double in game two.
- Isaac Wachsmann (1-4) drove in an RBI with a double and scored a run in the finale.
- Carter Hendrickson got aboard with a double (1-3) and a pair of walks in game two, scoring two runs.

- Ben Weber went the full 7.0 innings in game one, limiting the Pirates to one run on three hits, walking four and matching his season high with five strikeouts, picking up the win to move to 6-2 on the season. The 7.0 inning outing matched his season-long and is the first complete game for Xavier since Ethan Bosacker went the full 9.0 innings in the Musketeers' 7-0 win over Eastern Illinois in the 2023 Nashville Regional.
- Ryan Piech made the start in game two, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks, striking out three.
- Nick Boyle entered from the bullpen for the fifth, allowing one run on three hits in a season long 3.0 innings of work, and matching his season high with three strikeouts.
- Jake Hooker came in for the eighth, allowing one run on three hits and one walk, striking out one in 0.2 inning.
- Joseph Chavana came in with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth, getting the Musketeers out of the inning with a strikeout. Chavana did not allow an earned run in the final 1.1 inning, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out two and earning the save.
