Musketeers Take Series vs Pirates, Post 9-3 Game Two Win

JD Crisp went 3-for-4 with two RBI, a run and home run
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Xavier baseball won the weekend series at East Carolina on Saturday, posting a 9-3 win at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
Xavier moves to 2-0 on the year, while the Pirates drop to 0-2. Game three of the series finale is slated for 4:30 PM on Saturday, Feb. 14.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Musketeers scored two runs on two hits and one error. Luke Hammond scored the first run on double to right field by Peter Johnson. Josh Stonehouse scored the second run on a sacrifice fly by Tanner Thomas.
The Pirates made it a one-run game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Jack Vogele sacrifice fly.
Xavier responded in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five runs on seven hits. Tanner Thomas started the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Josh Stonehouse. Landon Mensik crossed home plate on a wild pitch for the second run of the inning before Tommy Townsend hit a two-run homer to right field. The Musketeers scored their final run on a JD Crisp RBI single to centerfield.
East Carolina scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning, making it a four-run game.
Xavier added two insurance runs on three hits in the top of the ninth inning to take a six-run advantage. JD Crisp hit a solo home run for the first score of the inning before Luke Hammond crossed home plate from third base following a double play.
Xavier had four more hits (13-9) than the Pirates and left seven fewer runners on base (11-4). The Musketeers did not commit any errors, while the Pirates had two miscues.

- Tommy Townsend went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Tanner Thomas was 0-for-2 with two RBI and two sacrifice flies.

- Garrett Helsel earned a save, throwing the final 3.1 innings of the game. The LHP threw four strikeouts and only allowed two hits. Helsel did not allow a run.
