Baseball Falls in Game Three at Fullerton, Finishes Series at 2-1

Musketeers head to Ohio State on Tuesday
Cal State Fullerton took a 4-0 lead after the first, and added four in the second to take an 8-0 lead.Â
Xavier led off the third with back-to-back singles from Donavan Canterberry and JD Crisp. Jonathan Fitz hit an RBI double to bring in Canterberry, and Crisp scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 8-2. Clay Burdette singled up the middle to bring in Fitz to make it 8-3.
The Musketeers picked up two more runs in the fifth when Fitz got on with another double and moved to third on a single from Eddie Peters. Burdette was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Landon Mensik brought in Fitz and Peters to cut Fullerton's lead to 8-5.
The Titans scored a pair in the fifth and and added another in the sixth to lead 11-5 headed into the seventh.
Xavier got a pair back on a two-run home run from Josh Stonehouse, bringing in Burdette who led off the seventh with a walk. Fullerton added three runs in the seventh and a pair in the eighth to set the final score at 16-7.
Xavier travels to Columbus to take on Ohio State on Tuesday, March 3, set for a 3:00 p.m. start.

- Jonathan Fitz finished 2-5 with a pair of doubles, scoring a pair of runs and driving in an RBI. Fitz finished with a .385 average at the plate for the weekend, with three doubles among his five hits.
- Landon Mensik (1-5) drove in a pair of RBIs with a single.
- Clay Burdette went 1-3 with a walk, driving in an RBI and scoring a run. He batted .375 for the series, driving in three RBIs.
- Josh Stonehouse (1-2) hit his team-high fifth home run of the season, finishing with two RBI and a run scored.

- JD Crisp finished 2-4 at the plate with a run scored. He batted .500 for the series, finishing the weekend with four hits and four runs scored.
- Eddie Peters went 2-5, scoring a run.
- Tommy Townsend got aboard with a walk.
- Jack DeTienne made the start, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk, striking out one in 1.0 inning.
- Evan Vasiliou entered for the second inning, going 1.0 inning with four runs allowed on five hits and walk.
- Michael Murphy came in with one on and no outs in the third, going 2.2 innings with two runs allowed on two hits, walking one and striking out a pair.
- Owen Poole went entered for the final out of the fifth, going 1.1 innings with one run allowed, unearned, on one hit, striking out one and walking one.
- Eli Bridenthal faced three batters in the seventh, issuing three walks.
- Jake Hooker entered with the bases loaded in the seventh, pitching the final 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, finishing with one K.
