Men's Tennis Travels to Nashville for Three Matches

Xavier to face Tennessee State, No. 13 Vandy and Lipscomb
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis travels to Nashville to take part in three matches this weekend, starting with Tennessee State on Friday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. ET. The Musketeers will also face No. 13 Vanderbilt on Friday, March 13, set for a 7:00 p.m. ET. start. Xavier remains in Nashville on Saturday, March 14 to face Lipscomb, starting at 11:00 a.m. ET.

TENNESSEE STATE
- The Tigers are 0-8 on the season entering the weekend.
- Last season TSU went 7-13 overall and 3-1 in Horizon League play. The Tigers took win over IU Indy in the opening round of the Horizon League Championship before falling to Cleveland State.
- Xavier took a 4-3 win in the last match between the two programs, in 2024.
VANDERBILT
- The No. 13 Commodores enter the weekend at 12-4 overall and 4-2 in SEC play, and will face No. 18 Auburn on Friday ahead of the match with the Musketeers.
- A pair of Dores, No. 90 Hoyoung Roh and No. 115 Pablo Martinez Gomez were ranked in the most recent ITA Singles Rankings, while doubles team No. 49 Nathan Coxa and Hoyoung Roh were in the most recent doubles rankings.
- Vanderbilt went 12-14 last season with a 4-10 record in SEC play, falling to Alabama in the opening round of the SEC Tournament.
LIPSCOMB
- The Bisons are 5-5 on the season, with matches against Belmont and IU Indy ahead of the match with Xavier.
- Last season, Lipscomb went 11-11 overall and 5-3 in ASUNÂ play. The Bisons fell to North Florida in the ASUN Championship First Round.
- Xavier took a 4-3 win over Lipscomb last season in Cincinnati.
WEEKLY AWARDS
- After picking up a 4-3 win over BIG EAST foe Marquette last weekend, Xavier men's tennis swept the BIG EAST Weekly Awards, with Alex Kotarski picking up Singles Player of the Week for the second time this season, and Max Pettingell and Nick Herdoiza earning Doubles Team of the Week.
- Kotarski, a sophomore from Hinsdale, Ill., earned Singles Player of the Week after putting the Musketeers in front, 3-2, against Marquette with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 win on the No. 3 singles court, helping Xavier to a 4-3 win over the Golden Eagles.
- Pettingell, a redshirt freshman from Sarasota, Fla., and Herdoiza, a junior from West Bloomfield, Mich., earned Doubles Team of the Week after clinching the doubles point for Xavier on court No. 1 with a 6-4 win, helping the Musketeers to 4-3 win over Marquette.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
- Next weekend, Xavier travels to Chicago for a pair of matches, starting with DePaul on Friday, March 20, set for a 2:00 p.m. ET start.
- The Musketeers will face Chicago Stat on Saturday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m. ET.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns a trio from last year's squad that collected 10 wins and advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals, senior Kyle Totorica, and sophomores Alex Kotarski and Andrew Spurck.
- The Musketeers added three transfers to the roster, senior Samuel Frizelle, who transferred from Florida Southern, junior Nick Herdoiza, who comes to Xavier from Northwestern, and Max Pettingell, a redshirt-freshman coming from Auburn.
- Xavier also added a pair of freshmen to the roster, Bode Campbell, a four-star recruit out of Bloomington, Minn., and Lukas Grossman, a four-star from Atlanta.
