Baseball Falls in Extra Innings in Game Two with Red Storm

Series with St. John's wraps up on Sunday at noon
The Musketeers moved to 19-25 (9-5 BIG EAST) on the season, while the Red Storm improved to 23-19 (9-2 BIG EAST)
Xavier took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, with Jonathan Fitz getting on with a lead-off walk and Luke Hammond bringing him in with his fourth home run of the season. Carter Christenson reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second following a walk for Donavan Canterberry and came home on a single from Jorge Valdes.
The Red Storm picked up a run in the third to cut the lead to two, but two more runs in the bottom of the inning pushed Xavier's lead out to four. Josh Stonehouse led off the frame with a solo home run, and back-to-back singles from Fitz and Peter Johnson put two on for Hammond, who brought Fitz in with a single for a 5-1 lead.
Xavier took the four-run lead into the seventh when the Red Storm brought in three runs to cut the Musketeer lead to one, 5-4. The one-run lead held into the ninth, when SJU brought in a run to tie it at 5-5, forcing extra innings.
The tie held into the 11th inning, when St. John's brought in three runs for its first lead of the game 8-5. The Musketeers got a run across in the bottom of the inning but fell, 8-6.
The series finale with the Red Storm is set for a 12:00 p.m. start on Sunday at Hayden Field, streamed live on XAVIER+.

- Luke Hammond finished 3-5 at the plate with a double and a home run, driving in three RBIs and scoring one run. His second-inning home run was his fourth of the season.
- Josh Stonehouse (1-5) finished with two RBIs and and a run scored. His solo home run in the third was his team-high matching 13th of the season.
- Jorge Valdes went 3-6 with a double, driving in an RBI.
- Jonathan Fitz finished 2-5 with a walk, scoring a pair of runs.
- Peter Johnson got aboard with a hit (1-4) and walk.
- Landon Mensik (1-3) recorded a double, one of 11 hits for the Musketeers.
- Donavan Canterberry got aboard on two walks, scoring a run. Clay Burdette also got on base with a walk.
- Ashton Chronister made the start, allowing one run on seven hits, striking out two and walking a pair in 6.0 innings of work.
- Michael Murphy entered for the seventh, going 1.2 innings with three runs allowed on four hits collecting a pair of strikeouts..
- Garrett Helsel entered with one on and two outs in the eighth, going the final 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out one.
