Musketeers Take 16-6 Win Over Red Storm in Series Finale

Six home runs power Xavier to season-high 16 runs scored in seven-inning win
The Musketeers improved to 20-25 (10-5 BIG EAST) on the season, while the Red Storm moved to 23-20 (9-3 BIG EAST)
St. John's took a 2-0 lead in the first, holding the two-run advantage into the bottom of the second. Jonathan Fitz led off the frame with a single, followed by Luke Hammond's second home run of the series to tie the game at 2-2. Landon Mensik followed Hammond's home run with a solo shot to left field to put the Musketeers in front, 3-2. A single for Donavan Canterberry and a walk for Jorge Valdes put two on for Clay Burdette, who hit the third home run of the inning to cap the six-run frame and make it a 6-2 Xavier lead.
Xavier added three more runs in the third, with Tommy Townsend driving in a pair of runs after Fitz got on with a walk and Mensik got on with a double. Townsend scored on an error to make it a 9-2 Xavier lead.
The Musketeers posted another six-run frame to take a 15-2 lead in the fifth. Hammond led off the inning with a single, and Townsend homered to make it 11-2. Tanner Thomas made it back-to-back home runs, pushing the lead out to 10, 12-2. Canterberry got on with a double, and Burdette's second home run of the day brought him in to make it a 14-2 advantage for the Musketeers. After Josh Stonehouse was hit by a pitch, he came home on a double from Fitz to cap off the scoring for the inning.
Evan Vasiliou came out of the pen in the first inning, and limited the Red Storm to just three hits through the fifth inning, at one point sitting down 11 straight batters and posting 1-2-3 frames in the third, fourth and fifth.
The Red Storm scored three in the sixth, cutting Xavier's lead back to 10, 15-5. Thomas got on with a one-out double in the bottom of frame, then scored on a single from Valdes for the 16-5 advantage.
St. John's picked up a run in the top of the seventh but the Red Storm were unable to get the Xavier advantage under 10, ending the game on a run rule at 16-6.
Xavier now travels north to Oxford, Ohio, to take on Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday, April 28, set for a 3:00 p.m. start, streamed live on Chatterbox Sports.

- Clay Burdette finished 3-5 at the plate with a double and two home runs, scoring a pair of runs and driving in a career-high five RBIs, matching the single-game season-high by a Musketeer (Luke Hammond vs. Seton Hall on 4/17/2026). Burdette now has a team-high 15 home runs for the season.
- Tommy Townsend went 2-4, with a double and his fourth home run of the season. Townsend matched his career high with four RBIs and scored a pair of runs.
- Luke Hammond went 2-3 with a walk, hitting his fifth home run of the season, and finished with two RBIs and two runs scored. Hammond posted a .462 average at the plate for the series, with a double and two home runs among his six hits, driving in five RBIs and scoring three runs against the Red Storm.
- Landon Mensik went 2-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored, finishing with a double and his seventh home run of the season.
- Tanner Thomas finished 2-4 with a double and his second home run of the season, driving in an RBI and scoring a pair of runs.
- Jonathan Fitz went 2-3 with a walk, driving in an RBIÂ and scoring two runs. Fitz batted .615 for the series with the Red Storm, collecting eight hits, scoring four runs and driving in two RBIs.
- Jorge Valdes finished 1-4 with a walk, driving in an RBI and scoring a run. Valdes posted a .500 average at the plate for the series, finishing with eight hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.
- Donavan Canterberry went 2-4, scoring two runs. Canterberry finished the series with a .417 average at the plate, collecting five hits and scoring four runs.
- Josh Stonehouse scored a run after getting on with a hit-by-pitch, one of a season-high 16 runs scored for the Musketeers, topping Xavier's previous season high of 13 runs scored.
- Nick Boyle made the start, facing three batters before leaving the game due to injury.
- Evan Vasiliou entered with two on and one out in the first, going 5.1 innings in relief, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks, striking out a pair. Vasiliou picked up his first win of the season.
- Jack DeTienne entered with one on and two out in the sixth, allowing one run on two hits, walking one and striking out one in 1.0 inning.
- Owen Poole entered for the final out of the seventh, picking it up with a strikeout to end the game.
