Lacrosse Hosts UConn on Senior Day

The Musketeers will face the Huskies for their final home BIG EAST game of the season.
CINCINNATI - The Xavier lacrosse team plays its penultimate home game against UConn on Saturday afternoon. The Musketeers are 1-1 at home this year in BIG EAST play.
XU dropped a 19-1 decision to No. 23 Georgetown last Saturday in Washington, D.C. Megan Droney scored the lone goal for the Musketeers.
UConn is coming off a 15-4 win over Butler last weekend in Connecticut. Redshirt senior Rayea Davis scored a season-high five goals in the contest.
Gabby Bouman earned a spot on the latest BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her five-goal performance against Butler last Wednesday. The junior helped lead Xavier to their first BIG EAST win of the year in a 14-9 victory over the Bulldogs.
Xavier will recognize seniors Samantha Balara, Jada Brandon, Gianna Cua, Catherine Gurd, Mary Mastrian, Katelyn McDonnell, Haley Reeck and Claire Slade ahead of Saturday's game.
First draw is set for 12:00 p.m. at Corcoran Field on Saturday and will be streamed on Xavier+.

- Samantha Balara leads the team with 22 goals and is tied for the team-lead of 29 points. The redshirt junior also ranks sixth in the BIG EAST for her 5.21 shots per game.
- Megan Droney is tied with Balara for the team-high 29 points behind her 12 goals and 17 assists. Droney ranks 10th in the league for her 1.21 assists per game.
- Sophomore Maya Graham follows up with 26 points on 11 goals and 15 assists. The Maryland native has contributed a point in all but two games this season.
- Jada Brandon is one of the top goalkeepers in the league, ranking second for her .445 save percentage and third with 10.37 GAA and 7.21 saves per game.
- Colby Wasson anchors the defense with her 39 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers. The junior is second in the league with 2.79 ground balls per game and third with 2.00 caused turnovers per game.
- Mya Miller leads the Musketeers with 26Â draw controls. The junior recorded a career-high eight draw controls against Butler on April 1.Â
- Head coach Brittney Morris picked up her first win as a Division I head coach on Feb. 20 in the 13-6 victory over Mercyhurst. She is in her first season at the helm of Xavier lacrosse after leading Division III St. Mary's College of Maryland to four-straight United East conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances.
- Morris retained 20 players from last year's squad with the addition of five transfers and seven newcomers.
- Samantha Balara, Catherine Gurd and Katelyn McDonnell were named the 2026 team captains.

- UConn is currently 4-8 with a 1-3 BIG EAST record after picking up their first league win of the season last Saturday in a 15-4 victory over Butler.
- The Huskies were picked to finish third in the BIG EAST this year after a 4-2 league finish a season ago that earned them the No. 3 seed at the BIG EAST Tournament.
- Abby Beran was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and just picked up her fourth Defensive Player of the Week award.
- Beran ranks first in the BIG EAST and third in the NCAA in ground balls per game (4.75) and first in the BIG EAST and second in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (4.00).
- Rayea Davis also earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team and currently leads the Huskies with 33 points on 23 goals and 10 assists.
