Late Comeback Falls Short at No. 3 Georgia Tech

Xavier dropped game two of the weekend series, 7-5, on Saturday
The Musketeers moved to 22-26 on the year, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 38-8.
The Musketeers scored in the first inning for the second time in as many games, striking first on a Josh Stonehouse RBI single to centerfield. Georgia Tech scored five runs on four hits and one error in the third inning, taking a four-run advantage over the Musketeers.
The Yellow Jackets added one run in both the fifth and sixth innings, taking a six-run advantage over the Musketeers. Josh Stonehouse hit a two-out, RBI single to centerfield in the seventh inning to cut Xavier's deficit to five runs.
The Musketeers added two runs on three hits in the eighth inning, closing within three runs (7-4). Luke Hammond scored the first run with a lead-off solo home run to right field. Tanner Thomas scored the second run on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by Jonathan Fitz.
Landon Mensik hit a two-out, solo home run to left field in the top of the ninth for the final run of the game.
Both teams had 12 hits in the contest. Xavier left one more runner on base (9-8) than the Yellow Jackets and committed two more errors (2-0).
Game three of the weekend series is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday. The game is being aired on the ACC Network Extra and The Varsity Network.

- Josh Stonehouse extended his reached base safely streak to a team-high 22Â games. The freshman slugger went 2-for-5 with two RBI. He now has a team-leading 13 multi-RBI games (ranks second on the team in total RBI with 38).
- Clay Burdette has now reached base safely in 17 straight games. The outfielder went 1-for-4 with a run.
- Jorge Valdes went 2-for-4, increasing his season multi-hit games to 11. Tanner Thomas went 2-for-3 with one run (he now has four multi-hit games).
- Jason Jelic went 2-for-2 with two doubles and one run. He now has four doubles on the year and three multi-hit games.
- Luke Hammond and Landon Mensik both hit solo home runs. Hammond now has six home runs on the year, while Mensik has eight.
- Eli Bridenthal (1-1) made his first start of the season (seventh overall appearance), allowing five hits and two runs in two innings of work.
- Jake Hooker pitched 2.2 innings of relief. The RHP allowed four hits and three runs.
- Sam Stevens recorded three strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief. The RHP surrendered three hits and one run.
- Sam Eppley faced four batters in 0.2 scorelss innings of relief. The RHP allowed one hit and walked one batter.
- Trevor Geddes threw one pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning, getting Jarren Advincula to fly out to left field.
