
XU Falls 3-0 at Florida International

MIAMI, Fla. - Florida International's Lucas Scudeler assisted on two goals including the game-winner to propel the Golden Panthers past the Xavier University men's soccer team 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in the final match of the FIU Diadora Soccer Classic in Miami, Fla. With the loss, XU slips to 1-3-1 on the season while Florida Atlantic improves to 4-1-0.
FIU's game-winner came in the 23rd minute when Scudeler played the ball to Carron Williams who had gotten behind the Xavier defense. Williams found himself in a one-on-one situation with XU goalkeeper Liam Curran and Williams slipped one past Curran into the lower right-hand corner for his sixth goal of the season.
The Musketeers kept FIU at bay for the remainder of the first half and into the 79th minute of the match. Curran was lifted after the first half for freshman Adam Sokolowski and Topeka, Kan. native made five saves to keep the Musketeers close.
However, the Golden Panthers broke through when Danny Vazquez caught Sokolowski out of the net and fired it over the outstretched arms of the XU net-minder.
FIU added a its third goal of the afternoon at 89:49.
Kyle Thomas made four saves in net for the Golden Panthers to preserve the shutout.
XU will look to get back on track on Friday, September 23 when the team travels to Indianapolis to take on Butler. Game time is set for 5:00 EDT.
