CINCINNATI - Xavier left-handed pitcher Charlie Leesman has signed with the Chicago White Sox as announced by Musketeer head coach Scott Googins. Leesman was chosen by the White Sox as the 330th overall pick in the 2008 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, the second highest draft pick in program history. He has been assigned to the organization's Rookie League team, the Bristol Sox, and joins former teammate Michael Lucas.
"This is an exciting time for Charlie and for our program," commented Googins. "We had a great year and now to have two guys sign professional contracts is a positive reflection on the team. We wish him the best."
The Cincinnati native has already made his debut with the Bristol Sox, tossing 2.0 innings on Aug. 18 with three strikeouts. On Aug. 21, Leesman threw 3.1 innings versus the Bluefield Orioles, giving up only one hit with three strikeouts to notch his first professional save.
The Sox are at home tonight (Aug. 25) and are set to face the Pulaski Mariners at 7 pm. For more information about the Bristol Sox click here.
