Musketeers have won seven of their last eight matches

CINCINNATI - Makayla Agin and Sofia Peterson both had a game-high 11 kills on Friday night, leading the Musketeers to a four-set win (25-14, 18-25, 25-19, 25-22) over DePaul. The Musketeers have now won seven of their last eight matches.

The Musketeers move to 17-11 (13-4 BIG EAST), while the Blue Demons drop to 16-14 (4-13 BIG EAST). Xavier improves to 12-5 in the all-time series with DePaul.

Abbey Bessler added nine kills and match-high 16 digs, while Brooke Betts chipped in eight kills and a team-high .417 hitting percentage. Agin hit .391 and added three block assists.

Mackenzi Humm dished out a team-high 24 assists to go along with three kills and McKena Estes added 22 assists. Defensively, Meredith Klare added 14 digs on the night.

Both teams had seven team blocks with Lauren Frilling pacing Xavier with five block assists. She also chipped in four kills in 10 attack attempts.

Xavier led from start to finish in the opening set, leading by as many as nine points twice including the 25-14 victory. The Musketeers hit .382 in the opening set led by Bessler and Agin who hit .667 and .571. Both players had four kills in the opening frame.

DePaul jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in set two. The Musketeers fought back to tie the match at 12 before the Blue Demons used a 9-2 run to take 21-14 advantage. The Blue Demons won the second set, 25-18.

Set three featured eight ties and five lead changes. DePaul got within two, 21-19, down the stretch before the Musketeers scored four unanswered points to win the stanza, 25-19. Agin had five kills in set three and hit .833.

Tied at 12 in set four, the Musketeers went on an 8-4 run to take a their largest lead of the set, 20-16. Xavier never relinquished the lead and held on for a 25-22 victory.

Brittany Maxwell led the Blue Demons with 11 kills, while Callie Huebener and Jasmine King had eight each. Colleen Smith had a match-high 32 assists to go along with 13 digs.

The Musketeers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 21 against Marquette at 7 p.m. The match will serve as 'Senior Day' for Agin and Lauren Metzger.
