Dallas Jaye Named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, Cory Brown Joins Him on First Team

Xavier received a Player of the Year for the fourth straight season on Friday, as Jaye shared Goalkeeper of the Year honors with Connor Sparrow
NEW YORK – After a brilliant regular season in goal, Dallas Jaye was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year on Friday and was joined on the All-BIG EAST First Team by sophomore defender Cory Brown.
The major conference award marked a fourth straight year the Xavier men's soccer program has produced a conference player of the year. It's also XU's fourth major award in three years and the second consecutive year the Musketeers have landed two players on the All-BIG EAST First Team.
Jaye, an offseason transfer from the University of South Florida, split the Goalkeeper of the Year award with Creighton's Connor Sparrow. He has been the anchor of a stingy Xavier defense that ranks 36th in the nation in goals against average (0.86) and is 8-2-1 in net, while ranking eighth in the nation in GAA (0.57) and seventh in save percentage (.851).
"From the minute he arrived, Dallas has been the epitome of a well-rounded student athlete and a Xavier soccer player," said head coach Andy Fleming. "He takes his craft very seriously and is diligent in his training, recovery, video and other aspects of his game. Perhaps the thing that has impressed me the most is how he has engaged himself with his fellow goalkeepers, the campus and the program upon his arrival."
In his second start of the season, Jaye had a huge match with six saves in a road shutout of No. 2 Notre Dame on Sept. 15. He would also set a career-high for saves (8) in Xavier's 2-1 win at No. 1 Creighton on Oct. 28. Although he has missed five matches this season competing for Guam in 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying, the stats prove his importance to the team – Xavier is 2-3 when he doesn't play.
"I think the numbers and his impact on our team speak for themselves," said Fleming. "He clearly makes us a Top 25 team and a top defensive unit. Add in the rigors of his MBA program and international travel this fall and I think Dallas' pitstop at Xavier has been wonderful. Kudos to coach Jamie Starr for his second straight Goalkeeper of the Year and to our program for the fourth straight season in which we've had a player of the year."
Brown, a sophomore from Nelson, New Zealand, continues to make a name for himself as one of the best center backs in college soccer. The All-BIG EAST First Team nod was his first, but comes after a preseason that saw him named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. He's backed it up by starting 16 matches, registering two assists and serving as the backbone of a defense that ranks 14th nationally in shutout percentage (53%).
Xavier returns to action on Sunday at 4 p.m., hosting DePaul in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals at XU Soccer Complex.
