Liggins falls short in consolation semifinals of ITA tournament

Malibu, CA – To be selected to play at the ITA Masters tournament is a feat in itself, but to make it to the semifinals of the consolation draw is not something to hang your head about.

Senior Sydney Liggins finished up at the ITA Masters tournament in Malibu, California Saturday afternoon after competing in two matches that day. Her first match, against Saint Louis' Aspen Cervin, was taken to three sets. The second set, Liggins fell in a close tie-breaker, 6-7 (6), forcing a third set.

The second match proved to be tougher for Liggins. Furman's Ansley Speaks defeated Liggins in two sets, ending Liggins' run in the tournament.

Liggins will rejoin her team and compete in the ITA Regionals at Middle Tennessee on Oct. 19.
