Musketeers clinch third seed in upcoming BIG EAST Tournament with third straight win
The Musketeers moved to 28-25 on the year with a third straight win, moving into third-place in the BIG EAST standings with a 9-6 record and one regular season game remaining. The victory solidifies Xavier as the third overall seed in next week's BIG EAST Tournament in Omaha, Neb.
Seton Hall is also locked into the fourth-seed, while Creighton and St. John's will finish in either first or second depending on the rest of the weekend's results.
Georgetown dropped to 27-27 (4-13 BIG EAST) with the loss as XU claimed the series victory.

• Xavier homered four times in the game and now has home runs in eight of its last nine games.
• The Musketeers recorded 10 or more hits for the 25th time this season, collecting 15 on the afternoon.
• Chris Givin (2-for-4, 2 R) extended his hitting streak to a team-best 11 straight games.
• Conor Grammes (2-for-3, R) extended his hitting streak to 10 games, collecting his team-leading 22nd multi-hit game.
• Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBI) smacked his 10th homer of the season, an opposite field shot in the third.
• Mitch Gallagher (3-for-5, 2 R, 4 RBI) had a big day at the plate, highlighted by a three-run homer in the seventh. The blast was his fourth of the year and second in as many games.
• Ethan Schmidt (1-for-4, R, 2 RBI) also left the yard in the seventh, collecting a two-run blast -- his second of the season.
• Nate Soria hit his seventh homer of the season, a solo shot in the seventh, as part of a 2-for-4 day with a run scored scored and three RBI.
• Rylan Bannon (1-for-4, R, RBI) and Will LaRue (1-for-3, 2 R, RBI) also collected hits for XU.
• Ryan Fournier (1-for-1) and Nate Monastra (1-for-1) both collected hits after coming off the bench in the eighth inning.

• Garrett Schilling (4-4) went six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three en route to a win.
• Schilling has yet to allow more than two runs in a start in five BIG EAST outings. He now has a 1.29 ERA spanning 28 innings of league action.
• Xavier starting pitching has yet to allow a run in the series this weekend, as Schilling and Zac Lowther have combined for 12 innings of scoreless ball with 10 strikeouts and just two hits allowed.
• XU's pitching staff has now allowed two runs or less in BIG EAST play in eight of 15 games. The rotation has a 2.43 ERA in BIG EAST action, compiling a line of 74.1 IP, 55 H, 20 ER, 80 K.
• Conor Grammes allowed a solo homer in an eight pitch seventh inning.
• Trey Schramm worked around a double in a scoreless eighth.
• Matt Kent finished the game out with a seven pitch, perfect ninth inning.
• Kent has now gone 11 appearances and 16.2 straight innings without allowing an earned run.

HOW XU SCORED |
FIRST INNING: Chris Givin singled through the right side and Conor Grammes was plunked to begin the inning. Rylan Bannon followed with a base hit to left, bringing home Givin to get the scoring started. Joe Gellenbeck then lofted a fly ball to center to bring Grammes home. With one out, Will LaRue singled through the left side to put runners on the corner for Mitch Gallagher who doubled off the wall in left as Bannon crossed the plate. Nate Soria batted next and doubled over the third baseman's head to bring two more across and make it 5-0.
THIRD INNING: Joe Gellenbeck smacked an 0-1 pitch for an opposite field homer to left, his 10th of the season, giving XU a 6-0 lead.
FOURTH INNING: Chris Givin reached on a throwing error to start the inning, going to second on a base hit up the middle by Conor Grammes. With one out, Joe Gellenbeck worked a walk to load the bases. Will LaRue then grounded into a fielder's choice to score Givin and make it 7-0.
SEVENTH INNING: Joe Gellenbeck reached on an error and Will LaRue followed with a walk leading to a three-run homer to left by Mitch Gallagher. Nate Soria batted next and launched a solo shot to left, giving XU back-to-back homers. After a Matt Fallon walked, Ethan Schmidt connected for a two-run shot to left, making it 13-1.
