Swimming Closes Out Regular Season at Miami

Musketeers face RedHawks on Saturday, events beginning at 1 PM
CINCINNATI – Xavier swimming travels to Oxford, Ohio for its final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championships, taking on the Miami RedHawks on Saturday, February 3 at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. Events are set to begin at 1:00 p.m.

LAST SEASON AGAINST MIAMI |
- At last season's meet at Miami, the Musketeers collected eight event wins, but women fell, 180-82 and the men fell 155-107.
- Emily Conners swept the freestyle sprints last season. Caroline Gaertner took the top spot in the 100 fly and the 100 back, and had a strong showing in the 200 back, taking second.
- Landon Clark scored the first win on the men's side in the 200 fly with a time of 1:55.07. A pair of 2017 graduates also collected event wins, with Rodrigo Suriano sweeping the freestyle sprints and Knox Hitt winning the 100 fly.

ABOUT MIAMI |
- Saturday's meet closes out the home schedule portion of the regular season for the RedHawks, who will celebrate Senior Day.
- Miami was last in action on Saturday, January 27 when the RedHawks hosted Eastern Michigan. MU was swept by EMU, with the women falling by a score of 169-131 margin and the men by a score of 207-93.
- Miami's women picked up four wins in racing events against Eastern Michigan, in the 200 free (Ella Moynihan - 1:51.19), the 100 fly (Peyton Mosbaugh - 55.97), 200 fly (Kayleigh Cannon - 2:03.95) and the 200 IM (Holly Schuster - 2:06.91).
- Miami's women have picked up dual meet wins against Bowling Green, Michigan State and Cincinnati this season, and also faced off with Purdue, Akron and Buffalo. The RedHawk women also finished first at the six-team Miami Invite.
- On the men's side, the Raiders had three first place finishes: 500 free (Gordon Wheeler - 4:39.71), 1000 free (Austin Theobald - 9:34.11) and the 400 free relay (Iago Moussalem, Nicholas Ward, Diego González Valentim and Chase Bettner - 3:04.38).
- MU has also faced off with Purdue, Michigan State and Cincinnati on the men's side. The RedHawk men finished third of five at the Miami Invite.
- At last year's MAC Championships, Miami's women finished fourth of eight while the men placed fourth of seven teams.

WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- At Wright State, Xavier won by a final score of 184-72 on the women's side after taking the top spot in 11 of 14 racing events.
- The Musketeer women opened the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay on the women's side, led in by Paxtyn Drew, Becca Titterton, Caroline Gaertner and Emily Conners.
- Emma Kauffeld led in three Musketeers in the top three in the 200 free. Regan DeWitt and Molly Ford finished second and third, respectively.
- Samantha White took first in the 200 fly.
- Xavier took the top three spots in the 50 free, led by Emily Conners. Lorelei Gaertner and Laura Dicus placed second and third.
- Emily Saugstad led the Musketeers in the 100 free, taking first. Caroline Gaertner placed second, Abigail Garner finished third and Maureen Cummins closed out the top four.
- Paxtyn Drew took first in the 200 back, followed in by Riece Drew in second and Anne Locker in third.
- Emma Kauffeld picked up a second first-place finish in the 500 free. Katie Kerr finished second and Regan DeWitt placed third.
- Annie Cummins finished first in the 100 fly.
- Xavier closed out the meet by taking the top three spots in the 200 free relay, led by Emily Conners, Paxtyn Drew, Caroline Gaertner and Tianna Vozar.

MEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- Against Wright State, Xavier's men fell by a final score of 167-94.
- Alex Wolfred picked up a pair of first place finishes, in the 200 free and the 500 free.
- Sam Johanns, Nathan Runyon and Alex Sironen finished two through four in the 100 back.
- Landon Clark led in three Musketeers in the top four in the 200 fly, followed in by Brandon Abboud and Bradley Jackson.
- Sam Johanns picked up another second-place finish in the 100 free.
- Chase Baldwin, Nathan Runyon and Alex Sironen took three of the top four spots in the 200 back.
- In the 500 free, Jared Ritz followed in Alex Wolfred for second-place.
- Xavier's men closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay for Alex Sironen, Sam Johanns, Robert Snader and Enrique Hernandez.

UP NEXT |
- Xavier has a three-week hiatus from outside competition as the Musketeers prepare for the BIG EAST Championships. The conference meet will be held in at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio from February 21-24.
