Cross Country Announces 2018 Schedule

CINCINNATI – Xavier cross country has released its upcoming 2018 schedule. The Musketeers open the season on Sept. 1 with the Queen City Invitational.
at QUEEN CITY INVITATIONAL
Meet Info: Saturday, Sept. 1 - Highland Heights, Ky.
2017 Finish: Women 2nd, Men 4th
Notable:
· This season marks the 12th consecutive year that the Musketeers have competed in the Queen City Invitational.
· The Xavier women were led by Madeline Britton who placed third in the 5K race last season, posting a school-record time of 17:25.90.
· Xavier returns three of its top five finishers from last year in Jenna Clayworth (6th - 17:54.70), Madeline Dingle (17th - 18:29.50) and Anna Kostarellis (18th - 18:41.50).
· The men were paced by John Hautz who finished 13th overall, posting a time of 15:38.30 in the 5K race. The Musketeers return its top-five finishers from last year's meet.
· The women's team has won the Queen City Invitational five times since 2009.
at NATIONAL CATHOLIC INVITATIONAL
Meet Info: Friday, Sept. 14 - Notre Dame Golf Course - South Bend, Ind.
2017 Finish: Did not compete at the meet
Notable:
· Xavier returns to the National Catholic Invitational after a one-year hiatus from the meet. The women placed sixth at the meet in 2016, while the men took eighth.
· The Musketeers have competed in the National Catholic Invitational 14 times. The Xavier women have finished as high as second at the meet twice, most recently finishing as runner-up in 2015.
at COMMODORE CLASSIC
Meet Info: Saturday, Sept. 15 - Percy Warner Park - Nashville, Tenn.
2017 Finish: Women 6th
Notable:
· The Musketeers will be competing in the Commodore Classic for the second time in as many seasons. Xavier competed at the meet for the first time in program history last season.
· Xavier only sent its women's team to Nashville last season with the Musketeers placing sixth out of 17 teams. Madeline Britton paced the squad with an eighth-place finish in the 5K race (17:46.90). She was followed by freshmen Anna Kostarellis (25th - 18:06.10) and Jenna Clayworth (30th - 18:10.20).
at LOUISVILLE CLASSIC
Meet Info: Saturday, Sept. 29 - E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park - Louisville, Ky.
2017 Finish: Women 16th
Notable:
· Xavier travels to the Louisville Classic for the third straight season. The 2016 campaign marked the first time the Musketeers raced at the Louisville Classic since 2005.
· The women placed 16th out of 37 NCAA DI teams at the meet last season. The Musketeers competed against seven nationally ranked teams: Boise State (13th), Wisconsin (18th), Minnesota (20th), Vanderbilt (25th), Furman (29th), West Virginia (33rd) and Louisville (36th).
· Madeline Britton paced the Musketeers, placing 62nd in a 5K time of 17:37.70. She was followed by freshmen Jenna Clayworth (69th - 17:41.52) and Anna Kostarellis (81st - 17:46.91).
at PAUL SHORT RUN
Meet Info: Saturday, Sept. 29 - Goodman Campus Cross Country Course - Bethlehem, Pa.
2017 Finish: Did not compete at the meet
Notable:
· The Musketeers competed at the Paul Short Run during the 2015 season, with the women placing 11th and the men taking 25th place. Sarah Mazzei led the women's team as they placed 30th (out of 312) with a 6K time of 21:16. The men were paced by Garrett Knapik who placed 96th in a field of 278 runners (8K - 25:27).
· The 2018 Paul Short Run will mark the 45th year of the event that was started by Hall of Fame Coach John Covert in 1969. In 2017, there were 4,267 finishers and nearly 400 teams competing in 14 different races.
at BRADLEY CLASSIC
Meet Info: Friday, Oct. 12 - Newman Golf Course - Peoria, Ill.
2017 Finish: Women 7th, Men 23rd
Notable:
· The Musketeers are competing at the Bradley Classic for the third straight season. The Xavier women placed seventh out of 31 teams last season, while the men took 23rd (out of 27 teams).
· Madeline Britton paced the women with a ninth-place finish in the 6K race (21:19.70). She was followed by Allison Sinning (17th - 21:30.30) and Jenna Clayworth (34th - 21:48.40).
Garrett Knapik led the men's team, placing 90th in the 8K race (26:24.90).
at BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS
Meet Info: Saturday, Oct. 27 - Indianapolis, Ind.
2017 Finish: Women 5th, Men 8th
Notable:
· The BIG EAST Championships will be held at Northview Church in Carmel, Ind. for the second time. The 2014 championship meet was also held at the venue.
· Madeline Britton placed eighth (6K - 20:51.80) at the championship last season, the highest finish for a Musketeer since joining the BIG EAST in 2013. She also earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors, the first Musketeer to earn the honors in cross country during BIG EAST action.
· Jenna Clayworth finished 23rd in a time of 21:32.60. Her finish was the second-best performance for a Xavier freshman since joining the BIG EAST. Caroline Gosser finished 16th at the 2015 conference championships.
· The men return three of its top-five finishers from last season's meet, including John Hautz who led the team with a 44th place finish (8K - 26:22.70).

at NCAA REGIONALS
Meet Info: Friday, Nov. 9 - Terre Haute, Ind.
2017 Finish: Women 14th
Notable:
· The Xavier women placed 14th out of 31 teams last year. The 2018 NCAA Great Lakes Regional will be held in Terre Haute, Ind., for the second straight season.
· Madeline Britton led the team with a 12th place finish, posting a time of 20:53 in the 6K race.
· Freshman Jenna Clayworth placed 63rd (21:43), the fifth-highest finish for a freshman at the regional.
