Men's Tennis Secures 12 Singles Wins at Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE – Xavier men's tennis continued their fall invitational season this past weekend at the Louisville Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville. The men competed in flights of singles and doubles, picking up 15 singles victories and four doubles victories on the weekend. Srdan Pejic topped Jan Vrba in an all-Musketeer Flight F singles championship and Dominic Macaluso advanced to the final round of his Flight G Singles.
Brett Winters started the Musketeers off on the right foot with a victory in the first round of Flight C Singles play, defeating Kennesaw, 7-6, 6-4. Winters then fell in the next round to EIU. In Flight D Singles, Matthew Graft fell in the first round, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7, to UT-Chattanooga. Graft moved onto the consolation round, where he picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lipscomb. Graft fell in the semi-final round of consolation play to Butler.
Jake Zipoli fell in the first round of Flight E Singles to Kennesaw. In the consolation bracket, Zipoli defeated Belarmine, 6-1, 2-6, 10-6. He then fell to Toledo in the semi-final round of consolation play. Michael Lee joined him In Flight E Singles and fell in the opening round and fell to an opponent from Butler. In consolation play, Lee opened with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kennesaw and followed the effort with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory over Toledo. In the Flight E Singles consolation final, Lee fell to an opponent from Toledo, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.
In Flight F Singles, Srdan Pejic won in the opening round over Belmont. Pejic advanced to the semi-final round after a win over Toledo, and moved on to the Flight Championship with a win over Ball State, 6-2, 7-5. Jan Vrba joined Pejic in Flight F Singles, defeating Austin Peay in the opening round. Vrba then moved onto the semi-final round following a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Chicago State and moved on to the Championship to take on Pejicwith a semi-final win over Toledo, 6-2, 6-3. Pejic topped Vrba, 6-2, 6-3, to take the flight title.
In Flight G Singles, Dominic Macaluso defeated an opponent from EIU in the opening round, and followed up the effort with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the second round over Toledo. Macaluso then defeated Bellarmine, 6-2, 6-2, in the semi-final round. In the championship, Macaluso fell, 7-5, 6-2, to BIG EAST rival Butler.
In doubles, Winters and Graft teamed up in the B Flight, but fell in the opening round to ETSU, 6-1. The duo then fell in the consolation round to Louisville, 6-2. Pejic and Vrba teamed up in Flight D Doubles, winning their opening round against UT-Chattanooga, 7-6(4). In the next round, the pair defeated Youngstown State, 6-3, to move onto the championship round. The duo fell in the championship, 6-2, to EIU.
In Flight E doubles, Aaron Thompson and Shashank Reddy teamed up and defeated Butler in the opening round, 6-4. They fell, however, in the next round to Wright State, 6-2. Zipoli and Macaluso rounded out the weekend for the Musketeers in Flight F Doubles, picking up a win in the first round over Ball State, 6-4. The duo then fell in the semi-final round to Belmont.
