
Men’s Tennis Battles Louisville on the Road

CINCINNATI –Xavier men's tennis continues their spring action on Thursday, February 21 when the Musketeers battle the Louisville Cardinals. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

MATCH NOTES: LOUISVILLE |
- The Louisville Cardinals went 15-11 last season and recorded five wins in ACC Conference play.
- The Musketeers did not meet the Cardinals last season.
- Both teams competed in the Louisville Invitational on Oct. 13-14.
- Xavier picked up two doubles wins against the Cardinals in the Louisville Invitational.
- Louisville is 9-3 so far this season and is undefeated at home.
- Most recently, the Cardinals defeated Austin Peay, 7-0, on February 17.
- Louisville is coached by Rex Ecarma and is led by four seniors.

- The Musketeers will be back in action on Saturday, February 23 when they return home to take on Wright State. The match at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: RICHMOND |
- In Xavier's last match, the Musketeers were narrowly defeated by Richmond, 4-3, on February 16.
- The Musketeers grabbed the doubles point with two victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 spot. Connor LaFavre grabbed a 6-3 victory in the No. 2 spot while teammates Jan Vrba and Michael Lee secured the point with a 6-4 win over the Spiders.
- Brett Winters and Jack Dykema fell in the No. 1 doubles spot. 6-2.
- Brett Winters rebounded with a singles victory in the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, and Matthew Graft claimed the No. 3 spot, winning in two sets, 6-4, 6-1.
- Richmond defeated the Musketeers and claimed three singles points, beating Jack Dykema, 7-6 (5), 6-2, in the No. 2 spot, Connor LaFavre, 7-6 (4), 6-2, in the No. 4 spot and Jan Vrba, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 5 spot.
- Michael Lee fell in the No. 6 spot, giving Louisville their fourth point. Lee was defeated in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 2-6.

THE MUSKETEERS |
- Xavier's roster is deep with upper-classmen, with three seniors and two juniors. Returning seniors include Jack Dykema, Connor LaFavre, and Trent Smith. Juniors Matthew Graft and Michael Lee also return.
- Sophomores Brett Winters and Jan Vrba return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier also added freshmen Dominic Macaluso and Oliver Weaver.
- Xavier is 1-7 so far this season.

FALL HIGHLIGHTS |
- Xavier opened the fall invitational tournament at the Greater Cincinnati Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Brett Winters posted a strong performance, sweeping the No. 1 flight. Overall, Xavier went 12-9 in singles play and won six doubles matches.
- At the Dayton Hidden Duals, the Musketeers came away with team wins over two of the three teams, picking up dominant wins over NKU, 7-1 and Wright State, 6-1, while falling 7-2 to the Flyers.
- Four Musketeers competed in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals at Tennessee, with Jack Dykema and Brett Winters advancing to the round of 32 in the 128-person main draw. Connor LaFavre and Matthew Graft also competed in the main draw in both singles and doubles. In doubles, the pair took Vanderbilt's Ross and Srabert to five tiebreakers before falling narrowly.
- Xavier closed the fall at the Louisville Invite, where the Musketeers collected 23 wins and had a competitor advance to the consolation final in all four singles flights.
