Men's Tennis Set to Compete in Orlando

CINCINNATI – Xavier men's tennis moves along in their spring 2019 action on Tuesday, March 12, Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14 when the Musketeers take on Howard, UT Tyler and Creighton. Tuesday's matchup is set to begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by an 11:30 a.m. start time the following day. Xavier will then close out the week with a BIG EAST matchup with Creighton at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. All matches will take place in Orlando, FL.

- The Bluejays went .500 last season, ending with a 10-10 record.
- Lost to Marquette last season in the first round of the BIG EAST Championships, 1-4.
- Defeated Xavier late last season, 5-2, on Apr. 7.
- Creighton is 4-6 so far this season.
- Creighton has only competed against one other BIG EAST Conference team this year. The Bluejays fell to DePaul, 3-4, on Feb. 1.

- Xavier was defeated by Dayton on March 9, falling to the Flyers, 4-0.
- In doubles, Dayton claimed the point after a 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot over Matthew Graft and Connor LaFavre. The Flyers also defeated Jan Vrba and Michael Lee, 6-3, in the No. 3 doubles spot. Jack Dykema and Brett Winters trailed, 5-4, when the point was decided.
- Dayton followed up doubles play with three singles wins to win the match, 4-0.
- Brett Winters fell in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-1. In the No. 2 spot, Jack Dykema was defeated 6-3, 6-3, and teammate Matthew Graft fell 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 3 spot.
- In No. 5 singles, Jan Vrba trailed, 7-5, 4-0, when the match was decided. Michael Lee was tied, 1-1, in the second set of No. 6 singles when the match was decided. Lee fell in the first set, 7-6.

- Xavier's roster is deep with upper-classmen, with three seniors and two juniors. Returning seniors include Jack Dykema, Connor LaFavre, and Trent Smith. Juniors Matthew Graft and Michael Lee also return.
- Sophomores Brett Winters and Jan Vrba return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier also added freshmen Dominic Macaluso and Oliver Weaver.
- Xavier is 4-11 so far this season.

FALL HIGHLIGHTS |
- Xavier opened the fall invitational tournament at the Greater Cincinnati Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Brett Winters posted a strong performance, sweeping the No. 1 flight. Overall, Xavier went 12-9 in singles play and won six doubles matches.
- At the Dayton Hidden Duals, the Musketeers came away with team wins over two of the three teams, picking up dominant wins over NKU, 7-1 and Wright State, 6-1, while falling 7-2 to the Flyers.
- Four Musketeers competed in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals at Tennessee, with Jack Dykema and Brett Winters advancing to the round of 32 in the 128-person main draw. Connor LaFavre and Matthew Graft also competed in the main draw in both singles and doubles. In doubles, the pair took Vanderbilt's Ross and Srabert to five tiebreakers before falling narrowly.
- Xavier closed the fall at the Louisville Invite, where the Musketeers collected 23 wins and had a competitor advance to the consolation final in all four singles flights.
