Men's Tennis Falls to Ball State to Open Spring Season

CINCINNATIÂ Â - Xavier men's tennis opened the season with Ball State, falling to the Cardinals, 6-1, at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club. Xavier returns to action on Sunday at Ohio State.

Xavier opened doubles play with a 6-1 win in the No. 3 doubles spot for Matthew Graft and Shashank Reddy, but Ball State responded with a win in the No. 2 spot 6-2, over Michael Lee and Jan Vrba. BSU secured the doubles point with a with a 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot over Brett Winters and Srdan Pejic to take a 1-0 lead.
BSU made it a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jan Vrba in the No. 4 spot, and went to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Michael Lee in the No. 6 spot. The Cardinals secure the win with a 4-6,7-5 (9-7), 6-2 win over Matthew Graft in the No. 3 spot.
The two teams played out the remainders of the singles matches, with BSU taking the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over Srdan Pejic to move to 5-0.
Xavier's lone point came from the No. 1 spot, where Brett Winters took a 6-2, 6-7 (13-18), 6-2 win. BSU closed out the match with a win in the No. 5 spot over Jan Vrba in a tiebreaker in the third setI 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).
