Game two with the Bearcats set for 2 PM at Hayden Field

CINCINNATI - Senior left-hander Trevor Olson went 7.0 innings in his second start of the season, pitching a perfect game through the first 6.0 innings, to help Xavier (4-7) pick up the 2-1 win in game one of four against Cincinnati (6-8).

Xavier took the lead on a Alex Helmin homer in the second inning, then added a run when Jeff Holtz took a one-out walk, advanced to second and scored on a Kody Darcy single. Xavier held the two-run lead going into the seventh inning when the Bearcats led off the inning with a homer, breaking up Olson's perfect outing. Olson remained through the seventh inning, and faced the lead off batter in the eighth before Trey Schramm entered to close out the game, preserving the 2-1 win for the Musketeers.

The Musketeers and Bearcats return to action on Saturday, opening up the home schedule for Xavier at Hayden Field. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.

XU AT THE PLATE

Alex Helmin finished with a hit (1-4) a run and an RBI for the day on his second inning home run, his first as a Musketeer.
Kody Darcy (1-4) picked up an RBI on a second inning single, bring Jeff Holtz in for the run.
Holtz scored in the second inning after taking a base on balls, one of three walks for Holtz for the day.
Tyler DeMartino went 2-4 at the plate for the day. DeMartino is batting .467 for the season.
Jack Housinger (1-3), Luke Stephenson (1-3) and Luke Franzoni (1-4) each had a hit as well.

XU ON THE MOUND

Trevor Olson went 7.0 innings, matching his career-long outing in 2018 at San Francisco, allowing one earned run on three hits. Olson struck out a career-high seven batters while walking none on the way to his first win of the season.
Trey Schramm entered in the eighth, going 2.0 innings without allowing a run or a hit, striking out three and walking one. Schramm picked up his second save of the season, and 11th of his career, moving him into a tie for sixth most career saves in Xavier's record books.

HOW THE SCORED

2ND INNING | Alex Helmin hit a one-out home run to left center to put the Musketeers up, 1-0. Jeff Holtz followed Helmin with a walk, then advanced to second when Luke Franzoni reached on an error. Kody Darcy singled to center field to send Holtz home, putting Xavier ahead, 2-0.
