No. 23 Women's Soccer Closes Home Non-Conference Schedule on Sunday with Loyola Chicago

Musketeers picked up 1-0 win over Ball State to move to 6-0
CINCINNATI - No. 23 Xavier women's soccer (6-0) closes out the home portion of the non-conference schedule on Sunday, September 12, hosting Loyola Chicago for a 1:00 p.m. first touch. The match with the Ramblers is part of a doubleheader with Xavier's men, who host Northwestern at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be available for live stream through FloSports.
Following the match with Loyola, the Musketeers head out on the road to close out the non-conference schedule, traveling to Bowling Green on Thursday, September 16 for a 6:00 p.m. match.

- Loyola is 4-1-1 after picking up a 1-0 win at DePaul on Thursday evening. The Ramblers went 3-0 to open the season with wins against Miami (Ohio), SIUE and Florida Atlantic before playing Wisconsin to a scoreless draw in double overtime and falling to Nebraska last weekend.
- Megan Nemec leads Loyola with seven points on three goals and an assist. Five other Ramblers have goals on the season.Â
- Olivia Knab has a team-high three assists.
- Maddie Hausmann has made all six starts this season, collecting 15 saves with four goals against in 560 minutes of action. She is 4-1-1 with four shutouts so faR THIS YEAR.
- Loyola finished last season at 8-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Ramblers won the MVC tournament to pick up a bid to the NCAA Championship, where the season ended with a 3-1 loss to Denver.
- Sophomore Megan Nemec led Loyola with 15 point on three goals and a team-high nine assists, earning MVC Player of the Year honors.
- Junior Abby Swanson was tabbed the MVC Defensive Player of the Year.Â
- Junior Aly Kilburg was also an All-MVC First Team selection.
- Alaina Abel earned MVC Freshman of the Year honors playing on the Ramblers backline.
- Senior Lindsey Hardiman had a team-best five goals, earning All-MVC Second Team honors.
- Senior Katharine Stephens was named Honorable Mention MVC while the coaching staff picked up a third-straight conference honor.Â
- Sophomore Grace Droessler played over 600 minutes in goal, allowing just seven goals against for a GAA of 1.01 and finishing with a 5-1-0 record.
- Xavier is 4-3-1 all time against the Ramblers with the last match-up happening in 2008.

- Xavier extended its season-starting winning streak, topping Ball State, 1-0, at Corcoran Field to move to 6-0 on the season on Thursday.
- Xavier took the lead midway through the first half on a goal from Emma Marcus from Chloe Netzel.
- The Musketeers limited Ball State to just one shot on-goal overall, holding a 14-9 advantage on shots overall, and picked up the third shutout of the season.Â
- Marcus'Â goal in the 23rd minute is her first of the season and first as a Musketeer. Combined with a pair of assists, Marcus is up to four points for the season.
- Chloe Netzel picked up an assist on Marcus' goal, her first helper of the season. Netzel has a team-high five points on the assist and a pair of goals for the season.
- Netzel's five shots, with two on-frame, led the Musketeers as they out-shot the Cardinals 14-9 overall and 7-1 on looks on frame.
- Molly McLaughlin and Emma Marcus each had a pair of shots, both on-frame.
- Xavier held a 9-1 advantage on corners, with a 6-0 advantage in the second half.
- Grace Brauer and Hayley Jakovich played the full 90 minutes on the Xavier backline, helping pick up the third shutout of the season.
- Olivia Jenkins collected a save in 90 minutes in-frame, moving to 6-0 on the season with three shutouts.
- Xavier's 6-0 start is the second-best start in school history, ranking behind only the 1990 team's 8-0 start.

- Xavier moved to 6-0 with the win over Ball State, making it the second best start in program history, with the 1990 team starting the season at 8-0.
- Emma Marcus became the seventh Musketeer to score, knocking in the game-winner against Ball State on Thursday night. Combined with two assists, she now has four points on the season.
- Chloe Netzel picked up an assist on Marcus' goal against Ball State to give her a team-high five points on the helper and two goals, both game-winners.
- Mathilde Rasmussen also has four points on a pair of goals for the season.
- Shelby Sallee's goal against Murray State brought her to three points for the season, matching Sonia Vargas who also has a goal and an assist on the season.

- Olivia Jenkins has made all six starts in frame, playing the full time in all six matches. She's collected 14Â saves with three goals against for a GAA of 0.50 and has a record of 6-0-0 with three complete shutouts.

- The Musketeers made their first appearance in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll in week three (9/7/21), entering the rankings at No. 23, marking the first time the Musketeers have been ranked in the USC National Poll since finishing the 2019 season at No. 24. The Musketeers had been receiving votes in each of the two previous weeks.
- Xavier also moved up to the No. 1 spot in the East region in week three, after being at No. 3 in the region for week two.

- Xavier closes out the non-conference schedule on the road, traveling to Bowling Green on Thursday, September 16 for a 6:00 p.m. first kick.
- The Falcons enter the game at 1-4-1 overall, picking up a 6-0 win over Oakland and a 1-1 double overtime draw at Michigan State. BGSU has also faced Big Ten foes RV Michigan, RV Ohio State and Illinois, as well as Notre Dame.
- Madi Wolfbauer's three goal and an assist brings her to seven points for the season, while Nikki Cox has seven points on two goals and three assists.
- Lace Betha also has three goals on the season.
- Lili Berg has made all six starts at goalkeeper, playing the bulk of the time in-frame for the Falcons. She has 25 saves and 12 goals against in 514 minutes of action.
- Bowling Green went 6-1-1 last season, going 5-1-0 in a MAC-only regular season to win the East division, then topped Ball State in the conference championship match for the team's third-straight MAC title and NCAA bid. In the NCAA Tournament, the Falcons played Ole Miss to a 0-0 draw through double overtime, but Mississippi advanced on PKs, 4-3.
- Junior Madi Wolfbauer led BGSU with 10 points on five goals, earning All-MAC First Team Honors. Senior Nikki Cox joined her on the first team.
- Kennedy White finished with nine points on four goals and an assist.
- Redshirt sophomore Lili Berg played over 700 minutes in-goal, allowing just three goals against for a GAA of 0.38, and finishing with a 6-1-1 record.Â
- Berg earned All-MAC Second Team honors, and was joined by sophomore Jasmijn Dijsselhof and sophomore Audrey Shea on the second team.
- Xavier is 3-2 all-time against the Falcons, taking the 2-1 win over BGSU in the last match-up in 2019.

 SPRING 2021 SEASON |
- Xavier finished spring 2021 at 3-6 overall and 2-4 in BIG EAST play, picking up wins over Bellarmine in the non-conference portion of the schedule, and BIG EAST wins over Creighton and DePaul, all three coming on the road.
- Following the spring season, two Musketeers earned all conference honors, All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, senior midfielder Molly McLaughlin, and All-Freshman Team member, forward Sonia Vargas.
- McLaughlin led the Musketeers with four points on two goals, while sophomore Grace Blumfeldt finished her rookie season with three point on a goal and an assist.
- After finishing fourth in the Midwest Division, the Musketeers missed the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in Nate Lie's tenure as head coach.

- The Musketeers return 26 letter-winners from the spring, including All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, senior midfielder Molly McLaughlin, and All-Freshman Team member, forward Sonia Vargas.
- Xavier's returners account for over 70 percent of the goals scored last season, led by McLaughlin's pair of tallies.
- The Musketeers added and 11-person freshman class for the fall after losing 11 letterwinners from spring 2021.
- Xavier was picked seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, collecting 45 points. Georgetown was picked to win the conference.
- Ahead of the start of the 2021 season, head coach Nate Lie announced additions to his staff. Katy Etelman joins Xavier as an assistant coach, while Tyler Smaha, who served as Xavier's Director of Player Development last season, also moves into the role of assistant coach. Jacob Morrison joins Xavier as the Director of Goalkeeping and Kaitlyn Jones joins Lie's staff as Director of Player Analysis/Operations.
