Women's Tennis to Host Michigan State and Virginia Tech in Adjusted Schedule

Musketeers will now face Michigan State on Saturday, Virginia Tech on Monday
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis will host Michigan State and Virginia Tech this weekend for a pair of matches in an updated schedule, now playing on Saturday and Monday, respectively.
Originally scheduled for Sunday, Xavier will now host Michigan State on Saturday, February 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Eastern Hills. The Musketeers with then face off with Virginia Tech, originally set for Friday, on Monday, February 7 at Five Seasons Ohio on Snider Road, set for 11:30 a.m. The match with the Hokies will not be live streamed.
Michigan State and Virginia Tech will also face off on Sunday, February 6, at 4:00 p.m. at Eastern Hills.

 MICHIGAN STATE |
- Michigan State is 1-1 on the season, falling to Notre Dame 6-1Â in the season opener before picking up a 5-2 win over DePaul last weekend.
- The Spartans went 7-12 overall and 6-11 in an all-Big Ten regular season
- MSU picked up a 4-1 over Wisconsin in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament before falling to No. 6 Ohio State, 4-0, in the second round.
- Xavier last faced MSU in 2020, a 4-1 win for the Spartans. Xavier picked up a point in doubles actions.

 VIRGINIA TECH |
- Virginia Tech is 1-0 on the season after picking up a 6-1 win over ETSU on January 22. The Hokies will also face Michigan State before the match with the Musketeers.
- Virginia Tech went 7-17 overall last season, including a 7-4 record in non-conference play.
- The Hokies beat Clemson 4-2 in the first round of the ACC Championships before falling to Georgia Tech in the second round.
- Xavier fell 5-2 to the Hokies last spring, with singles wins for Ahmeir Kyle in the No. 1 spot and Kat Lyman in the No. 3 spot.

- Xavier women's tennis picked up its third win of the season on Saturday in Memphis, topping South Florida in Memphis, 4-3, to move to 3-2Â on the season.
- Xavier took the doubles point after Anna Roggenburk and Anna Smith took the No. 3 spot, 6-1, and Kat Lyman and Anne-Sophie Courteau picked up the win in the No. 2 spot, 6-4.
- USF tied the match 1-1 with the first singles decision, a 6-2, 6-4 win in the No. 2 spot against Anna Roggenburk.
- Imani Graham put the Musketeers back in front with a 6-0, 7-5 win in the No. 1 spot. Anna Smith made it a 3-1 lead with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 4 spot.
- Xavier clinched the match in the No. 3 spot, where Kat Lyman battled back from falling in the first set and trailing 5-0 in the second set to take the 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1 win and put the Musketeers ahead 4-1.
- USF picked up the final two points, taking the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-1 against Anne-Sophie Courteau and the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 7-5, against Blessing Nwaozuzu.

 THE MUSKETEERS |
- Xavier returned seven letterwinners from last season's BIG EAST Championship squad, including Ahmeir Kyle and Anna Roggenburk, who were were unanimous selections to the All-BIG EAST First Team.Â
- Roggenburk also earned the nod as Freshman of the Year for the conference while Kyle became the first Musketeer to qualify for the NCAA DI Singles Championship.
- The Musketeers also return all-conference honoree Kat Lyman, who earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
- Xavier added a pair of newcomers as well in graduate transfer Anna Smith, joining the Musketeers from Marshall, as well as freshman Bella Kirby.
- The Musketeers also added a mid-year transfer in graduate student Anne-Sophie Courteau. She comes to Xavier from West Virginia, where she collected over 75 combined wins in four seasons, including 44 singles wins and 34 doubles wins.
