Swimming Opens Spring with Cincinnati, Bellarmine

Musketeers face Bearcats on Friday at 3 PM, Knights on Saturday at 12:10 PM
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming start up competition for the spring with a pair of road meets, traveling across town to Cincinnati on Friday and heading to Louisville to face Bellarmine on Saturday.
Swimming events with the Bearcats are set to begin at 3:00 p.m., with diving starting at 1:00 p.m. Events with the Knights are set for a 12:10 start on Saturday. following Bellarmine's Senior Day.

   CINCINNATI NOTES |
- The Cincinnati women have a pair of dual wins on the season, over UIndy and Kenyon College.
- The Bearcat men have dual wins over Miami (Ohio) and Kenyon, and took home a first place finish at the CSCAA Open Water Championships.
- Cincinnati's women finished fourth at the AAC Championships last season while the Bearcats men finished second at the AAC Championships and return AAC Men's Swimmer of the Year Michael Balcerak.
- At last season's meet, the Musketeers combined to win four event championships but were swept by the Bearcats.
- Xavier's women won the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay, and had a first place finish in the 200 back for Kali Fischer.
- Andrew Martin took the top spot in the 1000 free on the men's side.

 BELLARMINE NOTES |
- Bellarmine's men are 4-9Â in dual meets on the season, picking up a win over Eastern Illinois at the Butler Double Dual and in the regular season, plus wins over Valpo and Southern Indiana. At the Butler Double Dual, the Knights fell 150-51 in the head-to-head match-up with the Musketeers.
- On the women's side, the Knights are 3-19 in dual meets, with a win over EIU at the Butler Double Dual, plus wins over Valpo and Southern Indiana. Xavier won 152-49 in head-to-head scoring with Bellarmine at the Butler Double Dual.
- Bellarmine's men finished fifth at the CCSA Championships in 2022, while the women placed ninth. The two teams combined for 10 top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish in the 200 fly.
- At last season's meet, Xavier swept the Knights by winning 24 of 28 events.
- On the women's side, the Musketeers won 13 of 14 events to win by a final score of 192-53.
- On the men's side, Xavier won 11 events with a final score of 179.5-61.5.

- Xavier's full squad was last in action at the CSU Magnus Cup where the Musketeer men collected 1,076 points on the men's side to finish in first place of 10 teams.
- Kyle Hudson, Gage Hannewyk, Aiden Leamer and Andrew Martin set a season-best and BIG EAST leading time of 1:21.64 in the 200 free relay to place second in the opening race for the men.
- Andrew Martin set a new meet record in the A-Final of the 500 free with a time of 4:25.75 on the way to a first place finish, setting a season-best time among BIG EAST competitors. His finals time topped his meet record of 4:26.52, set in the prelims.
- Michael Bennington won the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.93, the top time for a Musketeer or BIG EAST swimmer this season. Jon Bernard, Jack Parker, Aiden Leamer and Aiden Neuman all earned a spot in the A-Final as well.
- Andrew Martin set a time of 20.70 in the A-Final of the 50 free after setting a BIG EAST leading time of 20.67 in the prelims.
- Xavier's men closed out the first day with a win in the 400 medley relay, with Jon Bernard, Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer and Andrew Martin finishing in 3:19.01, the top time by a BIG EAST school so far this season.
- The Musketeer men opened with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a BIG EAST-best time of 1:29.60 for Aiden Neuman, Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer and Andrew Martin.
- Michael Benington won the 400 IM with a time of 3:56.49, and Jack Parker placed second with a time of 3:57.02, the top two times in the BIG EAST so far this season.
- Aiden Leamer set a season-best, and BIG EAST leading, time of 48.97 in the prelims of the 100 fly to earn a spot in the A-Final where he finished fourth.
- Andrew Martin won the 200 free with a time of 1:37.46, besting his own meet record time set during the prelims. His A-Final time is the best time in the BIG EAST so far this season.
- Ethan Saunders finished third in the 100 breast with a time of 55.49, the best time set by a BIG EAST competitor so far this season. Jon Bernard and Roark Lundal also took part in the A-Final.
- Aiden Neuman set a BIG EAST-best time of 50.06 in the prelims of the 100 back to earn spot in the A-Final, where he placed second with a time of 50.07. Gage Hannewyk also took part in the A-Final, finishing fifth.
- Andrew Martin, Kyle Hudson, Jon Bernard and Ethan Wing set a time of 6:45.77 in the 800 free, the top time in the BIG EAST this season, to place third in the final event of day two.
- To open the meet, Andrew Martin took the top spot in the mile with a time of 15:28.54, besting his own BIG EAST-leading time for this season by over 25 seconds.
- Jon Bernard posted a time of 1:48.90 the 200 back, finishing second in the A-Final with a time that betters' his own BIG EAST leading time. Michael Benington finished third in the A-Final. Davis Klein, Matthew Adanin, and Aiden Neuman also competed in the A-Final.
- Kyle Hudson placed third in the A-Final of the 100 free with a time of 45.72, a BIG EAST-best time for the 2022-2023 season so far. Andrew Martin and Gage Hannewyk also took part in the A-Final.
- Jon Bernard set a time of 2:02.47 in the 200 breast, finishing third. The time betters his own BIG EAST leading time in the race for the season.
- Aiden Leamer led the Musketeers in the A-Final of the 200 fly, finishing in 1:50.09, which matches the top time in the BIG EAST so far this season. Jack Parker and Brett Wilson also competed in the A-Final.
- Kyle Hudson, Andrew Martin, Ethan Wing and Gage Hannewyk closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay, with a time of 2:59.38, a season-best time for the BIG EAST.

- Xavier's A squad of Clare Bosse, Olivia Oyster, Erin Merke and Kali Fischer set a time of 1:33.84 in the 200 free relay, placing third in the opening race. The time is the fastest for the Musketeers and is the fastest in the BIG EAST so far this season.
- Sydney Smith competed in the A-Final of the 500 free with a time of 5:05.65 after setting a time of 5:02.05 in the prelims, the top time by a Musketeer and in the BIG EAST in the 2022-23 season.
- Kali Fischer finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.21, topping her season best time and leading all BIG EAST competitors so far this season.
- Olivia Oyster set a season-best time for the Musketeers in the 50 free prelims at 23.59, the top time in the BIG EAST so far this season, and led the Musketeers in the A-Final. Clare Bosse also earned a spot in the A-Final.
- Xavier's women opened the meet with a tie for fourth in the 200 medley relay for Kali Fischer, Clare Bosse, Erin Ritz and Olivia Oyster, setting a time of 1:43.58, a BIG EAST best time so far this season.
- Emily Guerrera set a season best time for the Musketeers in the B-Final of the 400 IM with a time of 4:31.64. Kate Lair set a season-best time of 4:32.43 in the prelims of the 400 IM, earning a spot in the B-Final as well.
- Hannah Pugh set a BIG EAST-leading time of 55.59 in the 100 fly in the A-Finals, placing fourth. Erin Ritz also took part in the A-Final, tying for sixth.
- Kali Fischer bested her own BIG EAST-best time for the season in the A-Final of the 200 free, finishing in 1:49.61 to place third.
- Clare Bosse set a prelim time of 1:04.78 in the 100 breast, the best time by a Musketeer this season, to earn a spot in the A-Final. Julianne Libler also earned a spot in the A-Final.
- Hannah Pugh took the top spot in the B-final of the 100 back with a time of 56.27, the top time by a BIG EAST competitor this season. Brooke Atkins set a season-best time of 56.67 in the prelims of the 100 back to earn a spot in the A-Final where she finished in 57.43.
- Clara Keiser, Kali Fischer, Clare Bosse and Emma Swabb set a BIG EAST-best time of 7:31.06 in the 800 free relay to place third in the final event of day two.
- Kali Fischer, Clare Bosse, Erin Ritz and Olivia Oyster set a BIG EAST leading time of 3:46.62 in the 400 medley relay, finishing third.
- Sydney Smith's time of 17:24.74 bested her own BIG EAST-leading time, finishing sixth. Emma Swabb and Emily Guerrera also posted top 10 finishes in the event.
- Kali Fischer posted a time of 2:00.23 in the 200 back, a season-best time for the Musketeers in the event. Hannah Pugh also competed in the A-Final.
- Clare Bosse posted a BIG EAST-best time of 51.64 in the 100 free, finishing sixth. Olivia Oyster also competed in the A-Final.
- Emily Guerrera competed in the A-Final of the 200 breast, finishing in 2:23.34, a season-best time for the Musketeers.
- Erin Ritz set a season-best time for the Musketeers of 2:06.45 in the A-Final of the 200 fly.
- Kali Fischer, Alexis Worrall, Olivia Oyster and Clare Bosse set a time of 3:25.97 in the 400 freestyle relay, the best time by a BIG EAST squad so far this season, to close out the meet.

- Xavier will next be in action at the Butler Invite, set for January 29, starting at noon.
- This season's meet will include Ball State, Hillsdale, Youngstown State, IUPUI, Eastern Illinois, UIndy and Valpo, in addition to the Musketeers and the Bulldogs.
- Last season, the Musketeers swept the event on both the men's and women's side, combining for 32 top-three finishes.
- Xavier's women won three events to collect 824 points, topping second place by more than 100 points.
- The Musketeer men collected three event wins as well, totaling 780 points to top second-place UIndy's 747 point total

 XAVIER MEN |
- The Musketeer men are coming off a second-place finish at last season's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships. Xavier collected six event championships and had 10 Musketeers earn all-conference last season.
- Nine of the 10 All-BIG EAST honorees return for the 2022-23 season. Andrew Martin earned the honor in six events and Ethan Saunders earned the honor in five events.
- Jon Bernard, Gage Hannewyk, Joey Mullen, Jack Parker, Will Serad, Nathan Wall and Ethan Wing all earned All-BIG EAST last season.
- The Musketeers added three transfers, T'Lez Foulkes from Howard, Seth Kibler from Florida Institute of Technology and Aiden Neuman from Penn State.
- Xavier also added a five person class of newcomers, Matthew Adanin, Ben Dupree, Kyle Hudson, Aiden Leamer and Jonathan Mason.

- The Musketeer women return nine All-Conference performers from last season's third-place finishing team at the BIG EAST meet.
- Among the returners is Kali Fischer who earned All-BIG EAST in five events. Alexis Worrall and Clara Keiser also earned all-conference in multiple events.
- Molly Dynda, Erin Merke, Erin Ritz, Emma Swabb and Reese Turner all earned All-BIG EAST last season as well
- Xavier's women added four to the roster for the season, transfer Charlie Ramey who joins Xavier from Vermont, and freshmen Emma Amon, Olivia Oyster and Sydney Smith.
