Musketeers face CSU on Saturday, St. Bonaventure on Sunday

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis heads to Cleveland for a pair of matches at CSU, facing Cleveland State on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1:00 p.m. before taking on St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
Following the match with the Bonnies, the Musketeers make a trip to Indiana to face IUPUI on Friday, Feb. 3, before heading to Bloomington to face the Hoosiers on Sunday, Feb. 5.

CLEVELAND STATE |
- CSU is 1-2, with a 5-2 win at Purdue and losses at No. 2 Ohio State and No. 5 Michigan.
- Cleveland State went 12-12 overall last season with a 6-2 record in Horizon League play.
- The Vikings fell, 4-2, to IUPUI in the Horizon League Semifinals.
- Xavier won last season's match, 6-1, in Cincinnati.

ST. BONAVENTURE |
- St. Bonaventure is 1-1 on the season with a win over Loyola (Md) and a loss at Navy. They'll face CSU on Saturday evening.
- The Bonnies went 7-13 overall last season with a 0-4 record in A10 play.
- St. Bonaventure took a 4-2 win in the opening round of the A10 Tournament before falling to No. 1 seed VCU in the Quarterfinals.
- Xavier last faced the Bonnies as an A10 opponent in 2013, taking the 7-0 win on the road. The Musketeers enter this season's match-up with an eight-match winning streak.

- Xavier men's tennis opened the home portion of the spring schedule with a 6-1 win over NKU on Friday evening.
- In doubles play, Xavier used wins in the No. 1 spot for Ryan Cahill and Deacon Thomas (6-2), and In the No. 3 spot for Jorge Santamaria and Marco Pennelli (7-6 (8)) to take the 1-0 lead. Cambell Nakayama and Kyle Totorica fell in tiebreakers, 7-6 (3), in the No. 2 spot.
- Ryan Cahill picked up the win in the No. 1 singles spot, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. Deacon Thomas took the No. 2 court, 7-6 (4), 6-4 and Kyle Totorica took the comeback win on court No. 3, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 10-7.
- Marco Pennelli took a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 5 singles and Jorge Santamaria took No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-3.
- NKU picked up a point on No. 4 singles, a 6-7 (2), 6-, 6-4 win against Cambell Nakayama.

THE MUSKETEERS |
- The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season. Last year's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after earning the No. 3 seed, the program's highest seed in the BIG EAST Championship since joining the conference in 2013-14.
- Among the returners from last year's team are All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Ryan Cahill, as well as Marco Pennelli, Charlie Temming, Cambell Nakayama, Pascal Mosberger, Shashank Reddy, Aaron Thompson and Jake Zipoli.
- Xavier also added a trio of newcomers, including transfer Jorge Santamaria, as well as freshmen Deacon Thomas and Kyle Totorica.
