Men's Tennis Opens Spring Dual Schedule at EKU

Musketeers and Colonels set to play at 2:00 p.m. in Richmond, Ky.
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis heads south to open up the Spring schedule, taking on Eastern Kentucky at the Greg Adams Tennis Center in Richmond, Ky. on Saturday, January 13. The Musketeers and the Colonels get underway at 2:00 p.m.

- This is the first match of the spring schedule for EKU
- EKU went 4-19 overall and 1-7 in ASUN play, falling to Jacksonville State in the first round of the ASUN Tournament.
- Xavier took the 4-3 win in the last match-up with the Colonels during the 2017-18 season. Â
FALL RESULTS
-  Xavier men's tennis duo Ryan Cahill and Pascal Mosberger traveled to San Diego, Calif., to take part in the 2023 ITA National Fall Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center from Wednesday, Nov. 1 through Nov. 5.
- Cahill and Mosberger, the first Musketeers to compete in the event, opened up play by taking on Zach Fuchs and Wally Thayne of Brigham Young. The Musketeers battled to tiebreakers in the second set, but fell 6-4, 7-6 (5). The Musketeers moved on in the consolation bracket, taking on Nic Wiedenhorn and Anton Shepp of Nebraska, falling 6-3, 6-1.
- Xavier's last full team event was the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, highlighted by an appearance in the Main Doubles Semifinals for Cahill and Mosberger at UT-Chattanooga.
- Mosberger advanced to the Round of 32 in the main singles draw, taking a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kyle Tang of Bellarmine and a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Jonasz Dziopak of Tennessee State. Mosberger fell to Jeremie Casabon of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 6-0, in the match to advance to the quarterfinals.
- Cristian Gonzalez took a 6-4, 7-5 opening round win, and fell 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 64 in the Main Singles Draw. Gonzalez also played James Newton of Tennessee, falling 6-2, 6-1.
- Charlie Temming fell in the Round of 128, 6-1, 6-0, to Jack Batchelor of Bellarmine in the main singles bracket. He advanced in the consolation bracket, taking a 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Walker Valentine of UT-Chattanooga, getting a bye in to the Round of 32 where he fell to Rahulniket Konakanchi of Butler, 6-4, 6-4. Temming also played Filip Apltauer of Tennessee, falling 6-1, 6-1
- Kyle Totorica fell in the Round of 128, to Eli Herran of Ball State, 6-2,4-6, 6-4, in the main draw. Totorica moved on to play in the consolation bracket, falling 7-5, 6-2 to Kyle McNally of Dayton. Totorica also picked up a win over Carter Ramthun, 6-0, 6-1, and fell, 3-6, 6-4, 11-9, to Christopher Li of Tennessee in extra singles play.
- Ryan Cahill fell 7-5, 6-0 to Will Mayew of Louisville in the main draw. In the consolation bracket, Cahill took a 6-3, 6-0 win over Giovanni Becchis of Austin Peay before falling by walkover to wrap up his singles action.
- Marco Pennelli fell, 6-2, 6-3, to Joubert Klopper of Vanderbilt in the opening round of the main draw. In the consolation draw, he fell 6-4, 6-4 to Nicolas Arts of Butler.
- In doubles, Cahill and Mosberger advanced to the semifinals of the main doubles draw, taking an 8-6 win over Nice/Batchelor of Bellarmine, an 8-5 win over Ross and Lopez De Azcona of Vanderbilt, and an 8-3 win over Donnett/Rodrigues of Louisville to get to the quarterfinals.
- The pair picked up a win over Ondrej Horak and Marcel Kamroski of MTSU in the quarterfinals, 8-4, before falling in the semifinals, 7-5, 6-4, to Pablo Alemany and Charlie Barry of Memphis.
- Kyle Totorica and Cristian Gonzalez combined to pick up a 8-7 (6) win over Cosnet and Mercer of Kentucky, and an 8-5 win over Cressoni and Cossu of ETSU before falling in the round of 16 to Gatti/Jupa of UT-Chattanooga.
- Charlie Temming and Marco Pennelli took an opening round win, topping Balthazor and Willam of Butler, 8-6, before falling to Lanau and Tiraspolsky of Indiana, 8-2.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
- Xavier returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 17 when the Musketeers travel to Louisville, with the match set for a noon start.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns six letterwinners from last year's squad that finished the season at 12-9 overall.
- The 2022-23 season marked a second-straight season with 12 wins, the first time the program had back-to-back 10-plus win season since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
- The Musketeer returners include Ryan Cahill, Pascal Mosberger, Marco Pennelli, Jorge Santamaria, Charlie Temming and Kyle Totorica.
- Xavier also added a pair of freshmen, Alex Adamec and Cristian Gonzalez.
