Top-Seeded Women's Tennis Opens BIG EAST Championships Against Marquette

Musketeers face Golden Eagles at 12:45 PM in Cayce, S.C.
CINCINNATI - No. 1 seeded Xavier women's tennis heads to Cayce, S.C., to take part in the 2024 BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP, set to open play on on Friday, April 19 against No. 8 seed Marquette, who defeated No. 9 seed Butler in the opening round.
Xavier's Quarterfinal match is set to begin at 12:45 p.m. at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.Â
The Musketeers are 16-5 overall on the season and enter the conference tournament with a 5-0 record against BIG EAST opponents. Xavier is looking to win the program's fourth-straight BIG EAST Championship, fifth overall, and earn the league's automatic bid the the NCAA Championship.

- The 2024 BIG EAST Tennis Championships Presented by JEEP returns to the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C., from April 18-21.
- The Men's and Women's Championship rounds will be streamed live on FloSports.
- Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center will host the championship for the eighth consecutive year. The facility offers 30 lighted world-class courts with a championship-sized stadium court that has a viewing capacity of approximately 500 spectators. There are seven dedicated 38' courts for 8 & Under Tennis. Courts are complete with a small central gazebo, iced water coolers and electrical outlets on every court for ball-machine use.
- Seeds for the championships were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
- There is no charge for admission. Merchandise will be available for purchase through Shop.BIGEAST.com.

- The Golden Eagles are 8-16 and took a 4-2 win over Butler in the opening round to advance to the Quarterfinals.
- Xavier enters the post season with a four-match win streak over the Golden Eagles after taking the regular season match, 4-0, at Marquette last Friday in Milwaukee. In doubles play, Abby Nugent and Ellie Brotherton combined for a 6-3 win on the No. 2 court, the pair's 11th win as duo this season, and Emily Flowers and Sofia Mazzucato took a 7-6 (5) win on the No. 3 court to clinch the point, marking their 11th win as well. Imani Graham and Anna Roggenburk were tied 6-6 on the No. 1 court when the point was decided.
- Anna Roggenburk picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 2 court, her team-best 15th singles win of the season. Abby Nugent took court No. 3, 6-1, 6-3, her eighth singles win of the season. Abigail Siminski picked up her seventh-straight singles win on No. 4, 6-2, 6-0, her 11th win of the dual season.
- Marquette went 9-13 overall last season with a 2-5 record against BIG EAST teams during the regular season. MU advanced to the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament with a 4-0 win over Villanova.
WEEKLY AWARDS
- Anna Roggenburk earned BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week honors after going 2-0 over the weekend in the No. 2 singles spot, helping Xavier to a pair of BIG EAST wins.
- Roggenburk, a redshirt senior from Avon Lake, Ohio, took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Emma Davis of Marquette on Friday, helping Xavier to a 4-0 win over the Golden Eagles. Against DePaul, Roggenburk picked up the 6-2, 6-0 win over Eleanor Nobbs for her team-best 16th singles win of the season, helping Xavier to the 4-0 win and a 5-0 record against BIG EAST schools during the regular season.
- This is Roggenburk's first Singles Player of the Week honor of the season. She, paired with Imani Graham, has been part of the Doubles Team of the Week three times.
LAST TIME OUT
- Xavier wrapped up the regular season with 16 wins and a 5-0 record in BIG EAST play after taking a 4-0 win at DePaul on Saturday.
- In doubles play, Anna Roggenburk and Imani Graham combined to take a 6-1 win ont he No. 1 court, the pair's 14th doubles win of the dual season. Abby Nugent and Ellie Brotherton picked up their 12th win of the season, a 6-4 victory of Court No. 2, to clinch the point for the Musketeers.
- Abigail Siminski made it a 2-0 Xavier lead after taking a 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 4 court, her 12th singles win of the dual season.
- Anna Roggenburk added to her team-best singles win total, taking the No. 2 court 6-2, 6-0 for her 16th singles win of the season and the 3-0 Xavier lead.
- Emily Flowers clinched the win on the No. 6 court, taking the 6-3, 6-1 win, her 14th of the season, to clinch the match at 4-0.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns six from last year's squad that brought home the program's third-straight, and fourth overall, BIG EAST Championship and earned Xavier's fourth bid to the NCAA Championships.
- The 2022-23 Musketeers finished the season 14-8 overall with a 6-0 record against BIG EAST opponents.
- Among Xavier's returnees are 2023 BIG EAST Player of the Year, Imani Graham, and BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Abby Nugent.
- Anna Roggenburk, Blessing Nwaozuzu, Emily Flowers and Abigail Siminski also return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier added a pair of freshmen, Ellie Brotherton and Sofia Mazzucato.
- The Musketeers also added Elizabeth Pendergast, a transfer from Cincinnati, who joined the program in the 2024 spring semester.
