Women's Tennis Advances to BIG EAST Semifinals with 4-1 Win Over Marquette

CAYCE, S.C. - No. 1 seed Xavier women's tennis advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals with a 4-1 win over No. 8 seeded Marquette on Saturday morning at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Musketeers will face the winner of the Quarterfinal match between No. 4 seed UConn and No. 5 seed Creighton, set to start at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.

In doubles play, Emily Flowers and Sofia Mazzucato combined to take a 6-3 win on the No. 3 court. Marquette took the No. 2 court, 6-4, against Ellie Brotherton and Abby Nugent, and the point was decided in tiebreakers on the No. 1 court, with the Golden Eagles taking the point with a 7-6 decision against Imani Graham and Anna Roggenburk.
In singles play, Anna Roggenburk picked up the first decision, taking the No. 2 court, 6-1, 6-0, to pull the Musketeers even at 1-1, giving the redshirt senior her 17th singles win of the season.
Sofia Mazzucato picked up her 14th straight singles win, and 15th overall, taking a 6-2, 6-0 win on the No. 5 court to put the Musketeers in front 2-1.
Emily Flowers stretched the lead to 3-1 in favor of Xavier with a 6-2, 6-2 win on the No. 6 court, her 15th singles win of the season.
Abby Nugent clinched the win for the Musketeers on the No. 3 court, taking a 6-3, 6-0 win to set the final score at 4-1.
