
Women's Tennis Opens BIG EAST Championship Against No. 7 seed Georgetown

CINCINNATI - No. 2 seeded Xavier women's tennis heads to Cayce, S.C., to take part in the 2025 BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP. The Musketeers will open play on Friday, April 18, against No. 7 Georgetown.
Xavier's quarterfinal match is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.Â
The Musketeers are 11-8 overall on the season and enter the conference tournament with a 5-1 record against BIG EAST opponents. Xavier is looking to win the program's fifth-straight BIG EAST Championship, sixth overall, and earn the league's automatic bid the the NCAA Championship.

TOURNAMENT INFO
- The 2025Â BIG EAST Tennis Championships Presented by JEEP returns to the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C., from April 17-20.
- The Men's and Women's Championship rounds will be streamed live on FloCollege.
- Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center will host the championship for the eighth consecutive year. The facility offers 30 lighted world-class courts with a championship-sized stadium court that has a viewing capacity of approximately 500 spectators. There are seven dedicated 38' courts for 8 & Under Tennis. Courts are complete with a small central gazebo, iced water coolers and electrical outlets on every court for ball-machine use.
- Seeds for the championships were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.

GEORGETOWN
- Georgetown advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-2 win over No. 10 seed Marquette on Thursday.
- The Hoyas are 6-6 on the season and 4-5 against BIG EAST opponents in regular season matches, taking wins over Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall and Villanova while falling to DePaul, UConn, Xavier, Butler and DePaul.
- The Musketeers hosted the Hoyas on March 22, taking a 7-0 sweep for Xavier's sixth-straight win against Georgetown.
- Georgetown went 8-13 overall and 4-2 in BIG EAST action last year, falling to St. John's in the BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals.
LAST TIME OUT
- Xavier women's tennis closed out the regular season with a sixth-straight win, sweeping Marquette, 7-0, on Senior Day at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.
- In doubles, Abigail Siminski and Emily Flowers took a 6-1 win on the No. 3 court, and Abby Nugent and Clara Owen collected their sixth-straight win on the No. 1 doubles court, 6-1, to clinch the point.
- Clara Owen took a 6-0, 6-1 win on No. 6 singles, her ninth singles win, to make it a 2-0 Xavier lead, and Madeleine Rexroat won, 6-1, 6-2 on No. 3, her 12th singles win of the spring, to make it a 3-0 Xavier advantage.
- Abby Nugent clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win on No. 2 with her 12th singles win and sixth in a row.
- Emily Flowers picked up her team-high 15th singles win of the dual season, and her 10th in a row, taking No. 4 6-3, 6-0.
- Abigail Siminski won 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 5 court, her 11th win of the dual season.
- Elizabeth Pendergast picked up her 10th singles win of the season, winning the No. 1 court, 6-2, 1-6, 10-6 to complete the 7-0 sweep.
THE MUSKETEERS
- The Musketeers are looking for their fifth-straight, and sixth overall, BIG EAST Championship, and look to make a return trip to the NCAA Championship.
- Xavier returned six student-athletes from last year's BIG EAST Championship roster including juniors Emily Flowers, Abby Nugent and Abigail Siminski as well as sophomores Ellie Brotherton and Sofia Mazzucato and senior transfer Elizabeth Pendergast, who made her debut as a Musketeer this fall. Xavier also added a trio of freshmen to the roster, Clara Owen, Madeleine Rexroat and Natalie Smitek.
- Xavier wrapped up the fall schedule with Abby Nugent and Clara Owen becoming the first players in program history to compete in doubles at the NCAA Individual Championships. The pair earned the bid after advancing to the finals of the ITA Conference Masters Championships.
- Madeleine Rexroat also took part in the ITA Conference Masters Championships, representing the BIG EAST in singles. Elizabeth Pendergast and Emily Flowers competed at the ITA Sectional Championships as a doubles team, with Pendergast also playing in the singles draw.
